Our "Noises Off" set in rotation

No. The show was years ago - so I no longer have the plans. After the base “joists“ were laid out and assembled - we blocked it up. As Ron said, we used 1x3s to lay out the radii from the central pivot point. Rigid casters were placed perpendicular to the radii at about 5’ intervals. The...

    Portable doors

Director of a children's program at our theater would like a free standing door for her kids to use in a production. The door (door unit) has to be able to be easily struck offstage. Therefore I can't secure it to the stage. I can go ahead and add a threshold across the door - that's okay by...

Setting spike marks without using tape

What do y'all use to mark your ropes? We have about a dozen battens. Returning them to their "proper" positions is easy for the various drops or the scrim. Not so much for the electrics.I have marked the positions for the main drape on the arbor and the wall.I have used blue painters tape...

General lighting and electric question on fluorescent fixtures

NOT theatrical fixtures. I have a drop ceiling in my basement. I have drop in troffers (2 x 2 on one side and 2 x 4 on the other). I get a LOT of static on my FM radio when the lights are on. Needless to say, I prefer not to have the static.Suggestions?I have even contemplated...

Warming up Source Fours and Fresnels

Some background - our building is a concrete box. In the winter the heat is set to a toasty 60 degrees F in the auditorium - which typically means it is colder in the fly space above the stage as there are no registers for HVAC there. We used to have bats hibernate up in our fly space until...

Warming up Source Fours and Fresnels

Given the lack of heat in our building (and the fact that it is a concrete box) - I think I will go for preheating.

Warming up Source Fours and Fresnels

I usually let the lighting instruments warm-up for a period of time if they haven't been used for a while. Is this necessary or just a waste of time and electricity?

    Giant Turntable?

We did a large turntable for our Noises Off set. 40+ casters on a large base. No motor needed. http://www.controlbooth.com/threads/our-noises-off-set-in-rotation.36016/

Totally need help, small live band setup!

About DI boxes. Often the musicians will bring their own - but it is nice to have a few spare. If this a permanent install? Will it have to be broken down once in a while? Will the bar own the gear or will you own the gear?No matter - I would still go for rack mount for everything. You...

Second the snakes. I have a pair of AV link flat stage snakes (8 channels) that are quite nice and easy to tape down. In terms of power - you appear to have plenty.

    Sound woes

Our speakers are JBL JRX 215 for main speakers and fill speakers and JRX 118S for subwoofers.

Totally need help, small live band setup!

We run a number of musical acts through our venue. I won't get into mixers and such as what we have wouldn't work for you.Monitors - we have the capability of having up to eight monitors. The group size really determines how many we put on stage. Typically it is four. I know you have a...

    Sound woes

That's doable. Hmmm - I could mount them on the side walls, a little lower and close to the first sconce. There is a HVAC return on the other side of the walls, so I would have to be creative w/ the drilling for the speaker cable. One of our problems is with singers (and actors) who can't...

    Sound woes

Again, this is an old picture - so the speakers currently are pointed more towards the center of the audiotorium. We have front fills (and subwoofers) under the front of the stage. The two black panels on the apron are cloth. The speakers orientation has changed from the picture. If you have...

    Sound woes

Tried hanging the sound blankets on the rear wall. There is a difference. They aren't pretty - but they work. Sound panels are in the future. Tonight at rehearsal, I will use just the rear monitor speakers and see what they will do by themselves.
