Vintage Lighting They want an upgrade not more old gear

I've ran the calculations about five times in the last 6 or 7 years about switching to LED as asked by our board and the calc's always come back that ROI is not going to be anytime within our careers in this space.People just don't understand that a ColorSource at full whack is drawing 340W...

Vintage Lighting They want an upgrade not more old gear

Its been a while since I've logged on Ship, but this post struck a chord with me and you know all about it.I've dealt with two campaign events in the last year, media events, where the "spec pushers" showed up with LED lights because they turned their noses up to our inventory of vintage...

School leko/Ellipsoidal recommendations on a budget

If you can find used conventional Source4's you will have excellent lighting. In the US and Europe there is such a push to move to LED (which is somewhat driven by poor assumptions by clients) that these fixtures are available if you are just willing to go pick them up. I'm not sure what the...

    Conventional Fixtures Sourcing GY9.5 sockets?

    Apollo scroller squeak- maintenance suggestions?

The PB Blaster "dry" graphite is the standard for lighting gear but be warned, its MESSY and is not purely dry powder. It has some VOC's and mild binders in it.I'm so glad to hear that scrollers are still out there being used. They were pretty cool.I later figured out that the 4 pin XLR...

LED Stage Light Options for High School Theater

I believe all of those are currently produced by Osram. I am not an expert on the Strand fixtures, but I believe those are all G9.5 axial lamps and are all interchangeable, its just a matter of photometrics and bench focus. The only limit on interchanceability being wattage, 360Q's for...

LED Stage Light Options for High School Theater

Which fixtures are you having trouble sourcing lamps for? Other than the PAR's?Other than minor supply chain variations, most lamps are still being produced and virtually every one I've searched for, even ones that are clearly obsolete, are still available from many distributors.Be...

    Control/Dimming Non-Permanent Shutdown Procedures

Bit of an odd source, but my day job used to be with a major construction company that has a T&D division and industrial electrical division. Rather than futz with generators and welders, every job would just get a meter installed and then temp power distros from there, sometimes out on a half...

    6x22 lens train issues

So he is actually our former tech director and the guy I learned the most about lighting from other than ship. It is that theater that I'm performing these tests in. And, I actually have all of our current stock of Super Reflector fixtures lamped with GLC's based on Dave's reasoning.BUT....I...

    6x22 lens train issues

I installed a Super Reflector into one of our 6x22's with an FLK lamp and placed it below a 6x22 with a standard reflector and GLC lamp. Both had cleaned optics trains, in good working order, and were on a two-fer into an edison outlet. Thought the tungsten connoisseurs would find my results...

Hoisting heavy objects to and from a low grid

This is pretty much an unchanged product from the block and tackles Bell Systems employees used to hoist 11' equipment racks into place decades ago. My grandfather gave me one he used and its the exact same castings and parts as this one. The brake dogs in the upper block have never slipped...

    6x22 lens train issues

I might take you up on that.I showed another one of our good local lighting guys that 6x22 reflector pattern and focus issue and he was similarly intrigued. It is an FLK lamp in a 2nd gen faceted reflector. I spent the last few days building him some nice specials of other sizes and haven't...

    6x22 lens train issues

Agree, but the 6x22 only uses one. I think I'll throw a second one in today just to see what happens. But if you look at an Altman parts list, the 6x22 uses a single 6x16 lens.I've thought about soft-jaw pliers, sure. I was just wondering if there were any other tricks.

    6x22 lens train issues

It was you and I having the discussion about reflector geometry and filament geometry and a previous TD's opinions on it. Which are not entirely crazy from a purely physics perspective. I mean, at some point it ought to matter, even if just in efficiency. This reflector is not stippled, but...

    6x22 lens train issues

Ship, did you ever figure this one out? I started my upgrade activities with a 6x22 last night and shot it at my convenient 10' bench focus soffit and got this immculate image of the lamp and reflector. All I had done was pull the lens, clean it, and reinstall it in the proper orientation...
