Walk throughs - pre-production meetings - How much is just too much?

Some really mundane stuff here -- Let's assume a venue with no particular policy for pre-production visits, but an increasing number of rental clients are taking an increasing amount of time.SCENARIO ONE: So you've got a new client / renter - Dance school - Wants to book some dates and...

    Remembering Mini Disc

Ran it like I stole it until finally switching over to Show Cue Systems (and QLab to a lesser extent). TASCAM made units that we used to use (at a few radio stations) that were replacements for the old cart decks. They sounded good, they were small, I don't think I ever remember a live failure.

Mixers/Consoles I want to practice mixing with my Behringer X32. How do I do this?

Once you get everything set up - if you need source material, I've used a bunch of this stuff for "audio boot camp" stuff.https://www.telefunken-elektroakustik.com/multitracks

Sound f/x Gate vocals for theater?

I barely ever use gates - But I nearly always use *some level* of expansion. It's not to avoid flubs though - Just to keep the background sound to a minimum. If there are 20 bodypacks on stage and a "moment of silence" is happening, 6dB or so of expansion is a life saver. Same with bands. I...

    ETC CSPAR for cyc lighting

I had decent luck with R-113 -- HOWEVER -- it was OLD 113. Ordered new stuff and it isn't even close. That said - it wasn't horrible. I used ETC's diffusers (the medium ones for the D40's) and they work very well, but you lose some punch. That said - 10 of them on a 40x13...? I think you'd...

Chauvet LED Followspot 120ST - Thoughts?

There's one of the negatives -- Several built-in color filters (which also punch like Ali for the record) but no banjo/boomerang. These things are definitely "spots to have spots" - Utility pieces.Excellent and very smooth dimming - and that's great, because I can't imagine needing them at...

Chauvet LED Followspot 120ST - Thoughts?

So, left and right here are our Phoebus Ultra-Quartz II followspots (under varying degrees of ambient light - Quite a bit SR, not so much SL, music stand down center with towel) -Yes, the HL/SR unit definitely has more kick than the other. And then we kicked in the Chauvet... Absolutely no...

SpotShot - Chauvet 120 ST (center) vs.a pair (L&R) of Phoebus Ultra Quartz II followspots.

Chauvet LED Followspot 120ST - Thoughts?

Understood on the "DJ" side -- This is one of those situations where I'm in a corner.... Our Phoebus UQ2's are *so* [SELF-CENSORED] that we almost (ALMOST) never use them. 500-ish events last year, I think we used them for 5 or 6 of them. Partially because they're just somewhat rarely asked...

    Chauvet Slim par pro

I just (literally, just this afternoon) sent a fixture in that, when plugged into a chain of other instruments, would screw up the whole chain no matter where it was *in* that chain. So you probably need to find the bad instrument. But yeah, if you've already gone through the troubleshooting...

Chauvet LED Followspot 120ST - Thoughts?

So I'm at a 450-seat auditorium with 2 Phoebus Ultra Quartz II's -- 360W or whatever they are. They punch like that guy that back-handed a cop in CA last week (that means, they're really, really wimpy). That said - We rarely use spots. THAT said, one of the reasons is that these PUQ's have...

    Microphones Program Sound Source

I've always used measurement mics as close to front-row-center as possible. Super cheap (well, you can get expensive ones, but for program mics, a 20-20k flat measurement mic doesn't need to be pricey), omnidirectional so you get the audience clearly as well (but that's why you need to be near...
