    Rider, What Rider?

Ha! Their video wall had a short in it and took down their whole backline/most of our FOH rig about three songs in. Now I know why!

    bad idea? i think not!

Well, ask yourself this: am I comfortable losing a multi-thousand dollar fixture if I screw this up?

    Lighting Visualization Software AND HARDWARE

With the MA stuff, it only works with MA boards/software. There are ways you can kind of rig it to accept an art-net input but the heads are quite limited. If I recall, you can't use the newer MA 2 software this way.Capture is by far the cheapest way of getting a good visualizer. The Martin...

    Rider, What Rider?

Did a show with the Flaming Lips in September. If anything, the art overrides the money in their case. It was as much the theatrical aspect as the music for most of the show.

    Rider, What Rider?

Don't get me started on how many times I've shown up to a show and there's no room for the lighting console. And I run most of my shows off a laptop with a wing. I cry a little.

    Chauvet COLORado

Here, how about some photos? The first is a skating show. There is haze (a bit), but here I had every single light on the wide lens. The idea was the wash the ice. All 36 lights in the air.The second is a crappy picture from a festival I did this year. All the 1's are narrow, the 2's are...

    Chauvet COLORado

I have 24 COL 1 tours (RGBW) and 12 COL 2 Tours. In my experience, I get about the same relative (ie, what I can see in the haze) beam out of the 15 deg lens as a NSP 1k can. The 30 deg is just a straight wash, about the same as a WFL.I keep my 1's on the 15 deg lens and the 2's on the 30...

    Rider, What Rider?

On the "LD not traveling with desk" thing. Recently had a festival, and one of the very A-list acts (read, multiple top 10 hits) sends me a rider asking for a pretty generic 75k show with a half dozen movers. Which is great, since it's right in line with the other three headliners. They've no...

    ACL Bar Wiring

Er...you're not really getting how series wiring works. There's no way of getting around that, unless you want to knock the voltage for each light down to 28V with a transformer. Then each fixture would need its own 120V power supply.

    Control/Dimming Dimmer Lifespan

That's probably your answer then. New board, new dimmers. Chances are you'll need electrical work too.

    Control/Dimming Dimmer Lifespan

There's actually good Strand support locally. CDM2 Lightworks is the main Strand distributor and is in Vancouver.I'd give both CDM2 and Christie a call. They'll send out a techs to look at your current system and quote you a price on new stuff. I mean, if you're happy and figure you can get...

    dimming lights

Re: Lights keep dimmingCan you get your hands on a spare board? My first thought is your faders are a bit messed up and are sending a bad signal: specifically, your master. You can also just work the faders up and down and try and wear through any corrosion that might be on them. After that...

    Welding Glass for Focus

I'd just order some brazing goggles:https://www.acklandsgrainger.com/AGIPortalWeb/WebSource/ProductDisplay/globalProductDetailDisplay.do?item_code=NONVG200SH5

    Welding Glass for Focus

I see a lot of theatre designers who have never tried to do a focus, outdoors, at 8 am, on an east facing stage. The only way to find out where you're at is to fire the buggers at 100%, don some sunglasses, and pray.Although I've found that pulling the bulb housing out of a leko is a good way...
