Is it economically safe to pursue a career in technical theatre?

Man there are a lot of issues right off the bat here. Yes it's possible to work on a show as well as hold some other white-collar job. Why anyone would want to do this is beyond this thread. If you're looking to satisfy your parents, then something has gone wrong somewhere. You are an...

    delay on conductor camera...suggestions?

You'll always end up with delay if your source is analog and your destination is digital. I've used SDI all the way thru the chain before and it's rock solid. So get a decent camera that can output SDI, and use the coax line to an SDI monitor, or a monitor with a DVI input and a mini SDI-DVI box.

Two video signals, Two projectors, One computer?

"hippo"= Green Hippo Hippotizer (media server). TCP is TCP/IP or a network protocol and OSC is Open Sound Control....another type of network signalling protocol. cues in Isadora can be set up to receive either of these protocols with a "listener", and then the cue can be written to fire after...

Computer and software for theater projection

After thorough testing I can recommend Resolume Arena 4 for edge-blending and multiscreen, or Isadora would work great. Decent iMac and life is good.

    weatherproof a projector?

I think "halloween time" is the key phrase here. Also the 3 choice axiom- time, expense, quality.....choose 2. Two fans, a thermostat, a hole with a piece of decent glass, some silicone, maybe a piece of sheet metal for the bottom on top of some OC fiber,....just thoughts for a 1 or 2 day shot...

    weatherproof a projector?

I vote for the cooler. A sawzall, a decent muffin fan (maybe from a rack somewhere), a 12v power supply, a small thermostat, some silicone, you're good to go. It sounds like a 2 hour project for under $50.

Armagh Georgian Day Christmas Light Show

You'd be surprised at what you can accomplish with not that much. A media server is not entirely necessary....this mapping in particular looks like a lot recently, where it's basically a big surface to project on to. As far as the 'mapping' part, a lot is done in the content already...but...

Blackmagic H264 USB video recorder/MacbookPro question

Not sure about that specific setup, but anything that uses h264 is going to cause latency. I'd guess 6-10 frames but I don't know for sure. I use an interface called XLR8 and I can use any camera I like with different compression scenarios. You can always experiment but it'll depend on the...

    DPI HIGHlite12k SXGA+

well well well....it turns out I'm not going for said model. I got a hold of two Lightning 35hd's for a steal. One comes with a lens and a brand spanking new lamp, the other- no lens. Both have about 2k hours. BUT- they are 16k's at 2k rez. I'm stoked. Now I just need to source a decent...

    DPI HIGHlite12k SXGA+

Looks like they have 4000 hrs total on them. Not sure how many lamps that is, but it's a fair amount of miles no? We have a vendor here who services DPI so I'm gonna do a little more research. thanks for the heads up.

    DPI HIGHlite12k SXGA+

I've got an opportunity to purchase a pair of these and wondered if anyone had opinions (well....I'm sure there are lots of opinions here, but...) They'll be for a 2200 seat Proscenium theatre with about 120' of throw. Each comes with three lenses (short, short zoom, long zoom)...

    Projection Resources

Any of the big manufacturers websites (Christie, Panasonic, Barco, DP, etc.) will have tons of info and tools. There are also a lot of other websites that I can recommend but I won't post them here....just PM me or visit the site in my sig.

    QLab on 8 screens.

resolution, codec, RAM, vram, disc access timed are all going to affect your bottom line on this one. A Macpro with 2 smallish ssd's 20 or so gb. RAM and four decent video cards would suffice. your output to the tv's will be low rez and I suspect you'll get away with less-than-HD for the...
