    Moving light repair tech wage?

Hi, does anyone know what the usual hourly wage is for a moving light repair tech?Especially for one who doesn't have a lot of practical experience but has proven to be competent and somewhat comparable to the other techs with much more experience. Thanks

    Sharpy LVS Head-scratcher

I had a Sharpy that had a low voltage supply problem (fans, motors, and screen were dead when plugged in). The voltage was correct for the PSU that splits the mains to high and low voltages. And the cable that goes from the PSU to the the bus that splits power for the low voltage was good...

    Asking for a raise?

Darn... and I've been reluctant to ask for a raise since there's less work. A few weeks ago I had a "make it happen" gig with no real plot for circuits. Had to teach someone who makes more than me how to figure out how many 550VA lights he could put on a circuit and follow behind him because he...

    Asking for a raise?

Any advice for how to ask for a raise? Especially from a labor coordinator that's never been a tech.I'm not sure how much he knows about what we do so I was thinking about naming my strengths, what my rate is at other companies, and without throwing people under the bus giving real examples...

    Tour Company Recommendations?

I've been told that there are several touring lighting companies besides PRG and VER. I'd like to travel for work so I was wondering if anyone knew good companies I should apply to or where to look? I've also just joined tourready.com and as a young gun on bobnet. Thank you.

I wanna learn networking for lighting

I don't have a lot of real worild experience but I'd like to learn networking for lighting. Is there a book or class, like the Ethernet for Entertainment class they had at LDI, out there? I've read John Huntington's Show Networks and Control Networks which is great but looking for something more...

    pf and current question

I'm still a little confused. I don't think PF affects the magnitude of the amperage. Either the amp or the volts lags due to it having to first fight the charge/magnetism held in the capacitor/inductor when changing polarity. The peak of the amp no longer meets the peak of the volts, but...

    pf and current question

On math problems involving power factors less than 1, I saw the solution is that the current increases in order to maintain the same output. Are there fixtures that can change their amp draw and how is it done?

    Unbalanced 3-phase equation?

Sorry, if there was some confusion but yes, that's a pretty accurate picture of what I'm looking for.

    Unbalanced 3-phase equation?

Hello. Does anyone know the equation I can use to find the load on an individual leg, assuming we're using 208v and the load is unbalanced? Hypothetically, say AB=50, BC=40, and CA=60. How can I find out how much I'm pulling on A,B, and C? Thank you.

    Chain-motor cable question

Thank you. I wish I knew how to tag you. It's something that has always puzzled me.

    Chain-motor cable question

That was my first guess. But it seems weird to have a neutral connection when 3-phase motors don't need/use a neutral and that it's a male terminal on a connector that's female. But I don't know what other uses this connector has or if it's used with single phase power.

    Chain-motor cable question

Does anyone know what that silver pin on the female end of 50 amp cable that feeds into an 8-way distro is? I don't remember if this is the right one but it looks like this: http://www.hubbellcatalog.com/wiring/datasheet.asp?PN=CS8369 Someone opened one up for me and told me it was the ground...

Any recommendations for L.A. lighting companies?

Hi, everyone. I'm not sure how to make it happen but one of the career paths I'm interested is in is becoming a lighting programmer. I know the LD usually picks the programmer and it's a job that requires creativity and technical skill. Any advice on how to make it happen?I was thinking of...
