What kind of lighting set up was used on the main stage at SF Outside Lands 2011?

Chris Kuroda is the LD for Phish and Oli Metcalfe is the LD for Muse.

Computer based DMX Systems with Sound input

The E:Cue Lighting Application Suite (LAS) has a very nice audio input function. I was doing a very extensive search for lighting software that takes audio and lets you work with it in useful ways, and the E:Cue is the only one I have found that does it well. You can advance steps in a sequence...

    Design South Pacific Color scheme

Lots of nice saturated aqua and teal (L729 and R77 come to mind) for sky/water. Lots of sun in the S. Pacific so I used a lot of no color PARS in high sidelight for the effect. Try to temper rich saturated color for backgrounds, like sunsets and sky with brighter, more 'white' for area lighting...

20th Century Fox Search light effect

The Clay Paky Sharpy fixture is amazing and is what I would highly recommend if you can find them. It has a very tight searchlight type beam and can hold its own against a 4k Xenon Syncrolite. They are small, very bright and plug into a standard 120v outlet, as they only draw 400w or so.

    Convincing a director...

Looks like there is no convincing this director that he isn't quite seeing the big picture. What I have done in situations like this is calmly explain the reasons why it is better to have the cyc where it belongs vs. where he wants it to go based on all of your constraints in the theater you are...

Blacklight revisited : UV LED VS. FL VS. MV - output quality

Also, something not a lot of people realize until too late: "UV" LEDs, and this goes mostly for the DJ market type units with 5 or 10mm discrete LEDs, will severely drop intensity after a few hundred hours due to the UV light actually breaking down the plastic body of the LED itself. They...

What is it #3064: Dimmer test rig

I'll take a stab at this! 1- Production Arts 2- BASH 3- 1988 4- Would love to know! 5- Testing HD touring racks

    Dimmer Tester

PRG built something similar many years ago to test their touring racks in the shop. They had 96 100w A lamps mounted on a big board each with a big number written on the bulb to correlate with the circuit/dimmer #. They had 16 6cir Soca cables connecting the test rig to the racks for easy...

How bright is a Studio Beam?

Studio Beams use a Plano Convex optical system and a 700w MSR lamp which makes them very punchy, much better than the older 575w Studio Colors. I think you will be just fine with output compared to Source 4. They are pretty decent fixtures.

    OnPC Editors for Mac?

If you are speaking of onPC for MA lighting controls then no, only runs on windows. BUT it does run just fine if you are using Bootcamp or any of the windows virtualizers like VMWare Fusion or Parallels.

    Lighting Controller thoughts

I know of several professional programmers who own their own desks that do sub-rent them to larger shops when they are on another gig or otherwise not using it. Also when these programmers are hired for a gig and bring their own desk, they charge for the rental of the desk as well! Of course...

    Screw in ACLs, 150-250W

The narrowest beam angle I have seen for PAR38s is 8 degrees, that's as close as your gonna get with medium screw base.
