Oh that's a great idea! I did not think about making a macro to switch keyboard modes and then assigning that to a key. It's only in one situation that the keyboard does not act as expected. I forget when. When it happens, I just type on the screen with cursor or touchscreen using the on-screen...
It's a bit confusing. Most of the time the keyboard works fine. There are some situations when I am trying to label a cue or stack or something where the keyboard operates in programming mode and I need to enter the label on the screen. Some situations it works fine. I should track this down and...
I once had a failure of the DMX transceiver chip in my Sensor rack. It would give you this kind of behavior. As I recall, there was am unused chip on the board that I was able to swap. The chip is in a socket.
I've been using the XK-60 with my PC Wing and a touch screen. I use it mostly to map the buttons that are missing from the PC Wing. The touch screen is fine, but I really like hitting physical buttons when programming.
Go rent some lights from a pro and see how they do it. You'll learn a lot about the business and the types of paperwork. I know a sound guy who divides the cost of his gear by the number of events he will do in 2 years and then charges that much. After two years, all rental is profit or he can...
I just finished a show using MagicHD. It was a theatrical performance with about 50 subtitles projected on a screen above the proscenium. I'm impressed with the capabilities but still remain confused about some of the details. I got it working but felt like I was fumbling around too much. First...
I just bought the ChamSys PC Wing. Add a touchscreen laptop and you have a powerful bit of control for about $3k. They schedule training sessions about once a month. They will build whatever profile you need. The wing also comes with sound in to make some sound-to-light stuff happen. They have...
Another vote for Blizzard. I'm happy with the ToughPar Fab5 RGBAW. No fans. I can use it in our small theater or an intimate music event without worrying about fan noise.
I have been real happy with the Blizzard Toughpar Fab5. Good output. RGBAW. No fans so completely quiet. Built like a tank. Some nice dimming curves. I also have the Puck Fab5 which is just as bright but loud and flimsy.
I find myself in a very similar situation as Sayen. I've been asked to help our small town put together a lighting package for the small event center. We are a town of 2000. They have a total budget of $8000 and a small stage in a building built in the 40s that served as a USO. I use Chamsys...
Another Rob here, so i feel compelled to jump in! I recently bought one HushPar InfiniWhite 100 from Blizzard for evaluation. I have not tried it in a show yet, but I'm intrigued. It is a very small 21W fanless fixture that has amber, warm white, and cool white LEDs. Many different color...
I loved Steve Terry's talk. Summarized as, "don't let technology override art." I agree completely but feel like he is among the last standing against the LED tide. I have resisted LEDs until this year. Now I may never do another gel color wash, but I'm not giving up my Source 4s either. When...
Interesting and relevant. I'll check my 176-seat venue. It's possible that we have stage and house lighting on one meter and everything else on a second meter. I need to check the panel again. Our highest usage is clearly the electric heat (desert SW) and AC. I would guess that house lights...
