    Conventional Fixtures Lamp Options?

I guess I may have gotten a bad lot. They're all USHIO, FRK JCS120V-650WC. They all seem to go in the same or similar spots, so maybe its worth trying a fresh batch. It doesn't take much either. If they are warm, at all, we have to be careful during any focus adjustments. A kid runs the sled too...

    Conventional Fixtures Lamp Options?

The sled moves just fine once it is moving. It's getting it moving that can be a challenge. Despite loosening the focus knob, I usually have to apply some pressure to it perpendicular to the direction of travel to "break" it loose. It can be done with a little no-impact pressure from my hand...

    Conventional Fixtures Lamp Options?

Hi folks! I inherited some Selecon Acclaim fresnels and have found them quite handy in our space. Does anyone know if there is a lamp that could replace the FRK 650W? The filament is incredibly fragile at operating temp. Any little bump while focusing, and out goes the lamp.Thoughts?

    SCRimmer Stik Fuses?

Hi folks,Anyone know a source for 6.25A 250VAC slow-blow ceramic fuses. Looks like previous users ran 750w fixtures in dimmers rated for 600w and blew a bunch of fuses in our EDI SCRrimmer Stik units. I've been striking out in sourcing replacements. Any thoughts??? These are all we have...

Temporary Marley Dance floor on the cheap

I recently had a ballet group bring in some roofing underlayment to use as a stand-in for a marley floor. It fhad been donated by one of the parents and I overheard that it was priced at $9/sqft...much more than a the adagio floor from Rosco...but I guess he didn't need it. It seemed to work...

    Printing for Sets

I had several designers go this route and found that http://www.circlegraphicsonline.com/ was a great company to work with. They had some relatively inexpensive vinyl options. We had them finish them with grommets along the edges so that we could tension them on a steel frame or to wrap some...

Building an Island out of foam-help!

As DRU said, start with your platform and build up the foam in the style of a contour model. The thinner the foam, the easier it will be to get a smooth contour.

    Hanging from a Chandelier

I always ask "is this effect absolutely necessary to propel the story forward?" It's a discussion to have with your director at any rate. If the point of the gag is to illustrate the fact that the character is drunk and not in full control of her faculties, there are plenty of alternative...

Can you guys make me a hero?

Its been a little while since I've had to get new gear, but I've done a fair amount of purchases through Full Compass. Not sure how they compare price-wise, but I've never had an issue with them and have a solid selection. It used to be I could call up Garth at Pacific Pro Audio in Seattle...

    Antari Z-350 vs Ultratec Radiance

I used a borrowed/rented Radiance in a smaller venue for a company operating under an SPT Equity agreement. It was maybe 150 seats. I ended up setting the thing at the lightest setting because the output was insane. On the first test I had it maxed out on output and fan speed and we had the...

    Flats and Wagons

Personally, I would opt for the 4x8 wagons. I've gone as narrow as 18" in the past, but used a significant amount of weight in the base to keep it upright. I find that the added width also allows for more creative oprions when it comes to stabilizing the flats by building in...

Just make sure to treat that erosion cloth with flame retardant! That stuff looks fantastic, but it can catch fire extremely easily.

    2x2 flat framing

Since the school that I'm working with has a business account/PO set up through the local box store, I've begun shifting from 1x4 to 2x3 for my flats with 1/4" ply to skin them. The price of 1x4 is ridiculous lately and I can get 2x3's for less than $2.00 per 8' stick. So far the've been...

Wooden Water Tower - Creating Cylinder

I'd forgotten about vinyl flooring. I, too, have used it for curves. It's really great if you're working on organic shapes. This is a tree stump I made for a show That has about a 4' diameter. The upper is vinyl flooring and the lower is chicken wire and lightweight muslin. ***Apologies for...

Wooden Water Tower - Creating Cylinder

1/8 inch luan will definitely make an 8' diameter. I've faced plenty of round platforms that size before. It might be a stretch to get it to 6', but you might make it if you take your time. You won't find bender board plywood in any of the box stores, but you might make some calls to lumber...
