Protocol? She turns off her mic as she walks on stage...

It was a handheld wireless mic, probably shure. Guaranteed it was more than 8 years old, if that helps. I generally do no budget community theater, so new and improved technology is not something I have so much experience in :)

Protocol? She turns off her mic as she walks on stage...

Thanks for the replies, you all.I was the stage manager and all-around sound person (and input in other areas as well) with lots of kids in the cast. I didn't want to talk too much about *not* pressing any buttons on the mics because then "pressing buttons on the mics" is bouncing around their...

Protocol? She turns off her mic as she walks on stage...

So what is the least bad next step in this situation? It's a musical, the music is going and even though the mic is taped on, the performer shuts is as she walks on stage and begins singing. Option 1: Stop the music, tell the tech backstage to motion frantically to get her offstage, switch on...

    Yet another Portfolio Website

Is this website just for grad school, or also for potential employers? It makes a difference because schools want to know different things than employers do. Give people the info they need to make a decision. I'm not sure how it works with theater grad schools. What do they want to know, what...

Just popping in to say hi

Hi everyone, I haven't been around lately, and I miss being here. I took a regular job, and it is time-consuming, so I have less time for theater. Especially since theater needs large blocks of time in a row, which I do not really have now. But on the plus side, I am getting experience...

How many stage hands/crew members for a show?

You know, what I have been calling cue to cue was a bit off, and I can see lots of places for us to become a much stronger team for next time. Maybe we can measure the stage and wings, and then tape out sections of it somewhere. They do that for the dances, but they do not tape out the wings...

No time for pre-show balance- any tips?

I really appreciate all this info, you guys. I arranged with the venue to set up this morning (it is Friday here, and it is their equipment), so tomorrow night I can spend the time "balancing" and "tuning" the system. Wish me luck!

How many stage hands/crew members for a show?

I think that is definitely it. And also, getting a strong commitment from the crew. I do not think the director understands how much goes on backstage, and how much it is an entire show in itself. This is her third show in a proper theater. It used to be much more amateur, and nobody expected...

No time for pre-show balance- any tips?

Okay, sorry to be obtuse... what's patch? Is that making sure all the conections are actually connected? I learned all this in Hebrew... So a line check- that is checking the mics and DIs (whatever is in that channel) PFL. Is that considered part of the balance? It is not something a person...

No time for pre-show balance- any tips?

The speakers will be set up. The equipment belongs to the venue, and is stored in a closet off the room we are using. And I do not think it was used since the last time I set up for them-- I left the cables organized in a way that I can quickly get what I need. What's a line check? Is that...

No time for pre-show balance- any tips?

Hi all, On Sat. night I am doing the sound at a competition. The show is at 8:30pm, the earliest I can get in is 7:15. The last time I did this, the organizers kept at me, can we begin, can we begin, can we begin. I told them I had not done a balance and they said to skip it. My ear is...

    DISASTER!

So I need to: excercise authority, when I have it be specific in the contracts about crews, times, and penalties learn more about lighting follow up to make sure people do their assigned task let the venue know to be in touch before they start letting people in and the whole gender roles...

    DISASTER!

The stage, even with everything on, had shadows. But that would have been sort of bearable. However, there were specials at the two downstage corners, where each performer went for their Moment of Dramatic Introspection. Only two performers were completely in the light. The rest were cut off...

    DISASTER!

I did learn a lot from that show, but I realize I have a ton more to learn. What kind of thing should we put in the contract? Like if we are late entering the hall they get less money, that type of thing? Or that they need to reimburse us for hiring more workers? If they had ever shown up...

    DISASTER!

And this time I took the blame, because the producer hired me specifically to oversee the tech setup and get everything done in time. We were supposed to get the hall at 1pm for setup, and begin rehearsal at 4pm with sound and lights for an 8pm show, knowing that we would have to refocus a...
