dont let junior techies near a sound desk

Oh, it definitely does happen. Absolutely infuriating when I leave to get dinner and come back to find my sound board rewired by another kid just because he felt like it and because he has it in his head that since he knows more than most, he has a right to sabotage them. So, then, with a half...

dont let junior techies near a sound desk

Okay, I'm a senior. And I'm in charge of a fair amount of all the tech stuff in my school. But I'm in a similar boat to a few people on here. I have never been formally taught anything about sound. The seniors who taught me didn't know much more than the basic sliders and gain. Due to this...

    Sound and Electrics

So I work with all this stuff pretty often, but I'm still having trouble getting my mind wrapped around it all, so here's a few questions. I'm still having trouble relating volts, watts and amps to regular theatre/sound use. I know that most household circuits have a 15/20 amp load and...

    stone fireplace

Hi, I know this is a really old thread, but just for future reference. Plus, it makes me kind of happy that for once I can answer a question rather than ask it! What I used was just insulation foam from home depot. And although it took a little time, a regular, shanty old handsaw worked...

    Best tech colleges?

I'm thinking I want a BFA and possibly minor in something other than tech. That's part of the reason I like Emerson so much so far, they have other programs in things I'm interested in, but I can still focus on theatre. Also, I'm not entirely sure what I want to do yet. At my high school...

    Best tech colleges?

Hi, I know there are other threads on college, but none of them got to the questions I have. Next year will be my senior year of high school and I'm making some sad attempts at trying to figure out college. I would prefer a four year college with strong academics as well as a really strong tech...

    color border lights

Ah, thank you very much. These lights hung on a batten, but are not for the cyc, the director mainly wants them just for a general wash of color onstage when we need it. Also, someone told us that LED lights would not throw light as far onstage as we would prefer. So that's where the...

    color border lights

Okay, I have a complicated situation. So in my school, our dimmers are totally shot(only about 40 of 96 channels work) , and our whole system is 25 years old or more. So we're having trouble with our color borders, the hardwiring is shot, they ghost constantly and pose an electrocution hazard...

    I-Cues ?

I-cues are brilliant. As people said, I've never had a problem with noise. If I remember correctly, they just move to zero position when turned off and move very smoothly. They are easy to set up and take down, not much effort involved. Highly recommended.

Whos burned them sleves on a light

Only minor burns here. I have a pretty sweet scar in the shape of a nut on a source four though, I'm oddly fond of it. But otherwise, just little things, gobos, shutters. I've had lights somehow get through my gloves and manage to burn me. And I always just get random ones on my arms from...

    Curtain call for crew?

It just seems odd to me to have the tech come out onstage. We never go onstage, so it seems odd to suddenly go during curtain call. Tech curtain call is just a bit too reminiscent of cute little high school shows when the mommies and daddies want to see little johnny take a bow. The real...

    Organizing run crew?

Haha, saxman, you just perfectly described my situation. Let me know how your show turns out.

    Organizing run crew?

This is my first show stage managing. Unfortunately, most of my run crew is totally new to theatre. Also, as a high school theatre, people are unreliable and don't know what they're doing. Also, the set keeps getting changed, reorganized, things are added or taken out of scenes...

    Tall, Tall Set!

No specific ideas for now, but my school's doing 1984 this fall too. It shall be interesting to see how you do the show differently. I shall check back...

    Cold light?

Hey, a bit of a silly question, but how could I get a beam from a source four to look less yellow and more cold? I'm new at color and design, so I'm just beginning to experiment. I'm going for the look of flourescent light, a sterile white look. I was thinking I could use some very pale blue...
