    Clearcom Unlatch All button

The remote mic kill is a momentary power cutoff to all the beltpacks. Looking at the schematic on page 29 you can see the RMK circuit going from the microprocessor to the power outputs of each individual channel. Power runs on pin two, so breaking that should kill the beltpacks and clear out any...

    Qlab "go" delay

What type of machine are you running QLab on; Macbok Pro?MBP keyboards will actually go to sleep without any sort of indication, with no way to disable it, causing a delay upon a new keypress. Was it delays on a cue that came after a long period of nothingness?Figure53 also has a very...

Lock bolts missing from arbor plate?

Retrospreaders are also fantastic for pipe weight. My theatre installed one on each lineset at pipe weight with lock nuts. Makes it much harder to take a lineset below pipe weight. Ninja edit: they can also act as a cigar cutter in a pinch

The Interface of Management and Safety

For my Theatre Organization and Management Course I'm doing a research paper on a topic of my choosing. I'm interested in safety, but as it an Organization and Management course I cannot merely talk about using the proper hardware. I'm attempting to investigate the interface of technician...

    Messing with the noobs

Preface: in college right now.In order to keep a group of freshmen busy for 20 minutes one of the light-shop supervisors sent them for a cable-stretcher.A group of us convinced one of our painters that there was such a thing as a wood-welder.

Quickly dropping a drop and pulling offstage

I think you can do a Buffabuki for about $25. I learned this from the guys at University at Buffalo. You use a piece of jute webbing in a spring clamp sandwiching the drop. One end of the jute is tied to the clamp, the other end to a line. Pull the line and the jute pops out of the clamp and...

    Audio question, +4/-10 ?

A decibel is a referenced logarithmic scale OR a ratio of two numbers. Saying "97 dB" doesn't actually mean anything until you put it against a reference. A dB is a ratio of power where dB = 10 log (P1/P2) Through some math you can algebra Ohm's law into a formula for dB where for voltage...

    Audio question, +4/-10 ?

A dB isn't actually anything, it requires a reference. dBV is referenced against 1 volt RMS dbU is referenced against .775 volts RMS dBs are also logarithmic, which is always fun. To work in two separate scales you either need to convert one to the other or both to a linear scale...

    Macy's Thanksgiving Parade Audio?

I played spot-the-mic on all of the Broadway acts and couldn't find a single one. I think the performances are canned audio.

    Some more LS9 questions

I've used Studio Manager and a tablet with an LS9 before. It works great for ringing out the system/babysitting (mute/unmute a speaker). Right now I wouldn't dream of using it for a real show. It's a little clunky, response is a little slow, and wireless for a show still scares me.

    Tracking Consoles

I expect lighting people to jump on this one, but basic tracking from a sound guy. When a console is in cue-only-mode when you edit a cue it doesn't change what comes after it. You have three cues. Cue one sets channel fifteen at 50. Cue two leaves it at 50. Cue three also has it at 50...

Hard Hats, Bump Caps, and Helmets

I was taught in my Stagecraft class that paint shouldn't be used due to reactions with the plastic. My professor said stickers/tape were okay. I've heard a number of people dislike stickers because they can hide cracks and wear when you inspect the hardhat. I just leave my hardhat the plain...

    Automated Fixtures VariLite Troubleshooting

I've run into a bit of trouble with a VariLite 1000TS and I'm trying to trouble shoot it ASAP. They're at my former highschool and I'm the only one in today to look at them. The budget that would be used to fix it closes very soon so the big determination that I need to make is if its...
