Plot Question: Side Lighting Instrument Spacing & Labeling

I usually aim for 1’9” at least btwn pipe ends but it’s not always possible. I never go tighter than 18”.Source 4s on booms will need to be short yoked if you want 18” btwn fixtures.

Plot Question: Side Lighting Instrument Spacing & Labeling

I personally always draw electrics with accurate spacing between lights, what is the point of a scale drawing otherwise. I may move a balcony rail closer so it fits on the page (and call it out as "Not Drawn in True Position") but I think that within each lighting position the page scale should...

Design Help with programming/organization of Lustr

Perhaps you just mean you don't usually like the default color they come up in with all the emitters at full?If that's the case, you can change the default color by defining a Home Present. Put the Lustrs in a color that you like, then record a preset (I usually use 999).Then under...

Looking for recommendations for Static wash lights

Another vote for the Colorsource PAR. I've demoed a bunch of LED PARs next to each other, and the CS Par is one of the brightest, best color, and smoothest dimming in the field. For $600-700, its a steal.Edit: not to mention made in the USA, ETC 24/7 tech support... blah blah blah

    Mirror Mode For Ion

ETC recommends against running a client/mirror over WiFi as it not only can affect the reliability of the client, but the whole lighting network. Consider running an Ethernet line. That said, make sure the mirror has the exact same software and fixture library version as the ion, and a...

    Basketball drop in HS Musical

Not to be that person, but isn't DMX control of something like this a safety concern?A data error causing a basketball to fall on an unsuspecting actor's head seems like it could do a good deal of damage, depending on the trims.

    ETC EOS Admin Account

It's not useful... however the login is something simple like admin---eos, or something like that.It lets you access the windows OS powering Eos, and lets you run the console like a normal windows 7 computer.

    More backstage diversity

Sorry, but no. Lighting design is a field pioneered by women-- folks like Jean Rosenthal and Tharon Musser defined what it means to be a lighting designer. What we have now is a bit of boy's club mentality in the field.

    Lee High Temp - Discontinued?

If true, this is extremely unfortunate. It's going to make darker lee colors nearly unusable.

Level 1% is very bright on Chauvet COLORdash Par Hex 7

As you are discovering, low-end dimming smoothness is one of the biggest differences between cheap and expensive LED equipment. One of the reasons things like ETC's D40s are so expensive is how well they can dim down to zero.16 bit mode may well help. Otherwise, better equipment is the solution.

    Automated Fixtures VL1100 maintenance issues

Unfortunately this sounds like just about every VL1100 I've seen in the wild. Hoping the Mac Encore may finally give us a suitable replacement someday.http://www.martin.com/en-us/product-details/mac-encore-performance-wrm

Design Best gels for skin tones

I mean... it's so broad, so there's really no "right" answer. It depends on a million things. That said, if I'm designing a totally generic rep plot I'd likely go with R05 for warm and L201 for cool. If it's a dance plot, I often go more saturated (especially on the cool).

    color conventions for light plots

I mean scenic elements. The sort of things that you would include in a lighter lineweight on a light plot.Obviously, electrics should be more well defined, and everything should be included on an easy to read lineset schedule.

    color conventions for light plots

I do sometimes see companies indicate non-rep units/adds in a different color (like red). I prefer to use a thick outline of instruments though with 50% opacity on a lower layer instead–– as again this can be more printer friendly.

    color conventions for light plots

Typically, light plots are primarily in black and white. This (A.) This avoids losing critical information if the plotter's color quality is poor, and (B.) It's just the theater standard and some look down upon excessively colorful plots.LD Charlie Morrison has some rather beautiful drafting...
