Merry-Go-Round for "Carousel" - To build, or not to build...

So the outcome of our carousel was very successful. In the end we did in fact build a turntable that rotated via a cable driven motor. I'm gonna be posting in-progress and finished photos soon of both the carousel and the motor rig itself. I will say the entire process was very rewarding, and...

Breaking into new areas of the industry.

I'm a recent college grad who is currently working at a LORT theater as a carpenter. In college, I spent most of my time learning about construction, rigging, and scenic design. Despite being able to make a career as a carpenter, I am trying to expand my knowledge in the fields of lighting and...

Rotating a flown unit on the ground

Yes, it is a two sided wall. The full movement is the wall comes in, rotates 45 degrees so that it is facing down center, and gets locked into place. When the scene is over, it gets unlocked, rotates back to 0 degrees, and flies out. The exact same motion happens again during the last scene of...

Rotating a flown unit on the ground

Rigging question over here - Is there a safe way to rotate a flown wall that is about 12'x8' by 45 degrees once it has landed on the deck, and then lock it in that position? I would imagine a particular piece of hardware would be necessary, but I'm not entirely sure. Thanks all!

Hey all,I am the scenic designer for my school's production of Carousel which will be taking place this spring. I was wondering if the merry-go-round in the first scene of the show is usually something that is built, or rented? I am sure there are many challenges to building something of this...

I have been thinking about what you guys have been saying for a few days now, and I have to say, I think taking some time to work in the field is definitely the right decision. I'm starting to realize that there is a lot more I would like to experience before dedicating three years of my life to...

Looking for the right Grad School...

Well I already have two summer stocks under my belt, so I do have some work experience. In my mind, it just seems as though going to grad school is the right/logical choice. I'm one of those people who enjoys school very much and loves to learn in an education setting. However, I definitely...
