Since the chandelier operates OK when plugged one way and trips a 20A CB when the plug is reversed, there is a path from line to neutral when the plug is reversed. From the setup description it appears that the chandelier frame is connected to building ground through the batten it is hung from...
Here's a guess - The RJ followspot has a more parallel light beam due to its longer lens train, so its focal point is much longer than that of an S4 so the safety grate located in front of the spot becomes an out of focus template and becomes more definable on stage when the amount of light...
Hi Alex,
I bet the power supply used in the node is a switchmode PS. From the symptom - sounds like the PWM is hitting current limit. The question is - is the power supply at fault or the node electronics. Can you disconnect the PS from the node electronics? And if you can - does the PS...
The Light Console you have is just that a light console only - it has no dimmers. The console outputs DMX-512, which is an RS-485 data buss protocall that allows the console to control a seperate dimmer rack. I believe this console has 24 dimmer channel capacity and 78 dmx channels. So - the...
No, not acceptable to run four 575W S4s on a 2.4KW rated dimmer. Good design practice says the dimmer rating should be derated by some amount. 20% derating will allow 3 S4s to operate even under voltage transient conditions. Why gamble with failures during a production caused by loading a dimmer...
Ok - so we all like the connector better than any of the alternatives. But how about some upgrades. If the rest of the industry were as unchanged as this, we would still be using reostats. Let's see, how about a locking device - that would save on all that gaff tape to hold the things together...
Connector schemes almost always provide a mechanism for keying that will not allow the connector to be mated with it's counterpart in any way other than the correct way. This is especially important when dealing with hazardous voltage levels - AC line voltage would be one of those. So how do you...
I agree - DMX was developed to be a very robust data buss based on EIA 485. But that buss was designed to be terminated with a 120 ohm resistor. It's a simple to add a terminator to each DMX buss to prevent the possibility of reflected data screwing up any fixtures.

It's simple really isn't it - balance the lighting load between the available phases. Easier said than done. Just because you patch the plot evenly between the phases does not mean that anywhere in a given show the cueing will result in an even phase load. So - when patching a show some...
I also loved the Super Trouper - many hours operating. Anybody operated the Strong Gladiator - I operted that many hours in stadium productions - lots of good memories.
The dimmer you refer to is rated to supply 600 watts max. So, that means it is thermal and electrically design to supply a maximum of 600 watts, furthermore it is protected by a circuit breaker or fuse which will open if the load (light) attached to the dimmer exceeds 600 watts. So a 600 watt...
