Hey, I thought we could share pictures of our shows...

Awesome looking stage design! When our local theatre produced Clue last year, we put all of the various doors on wagons and had 8 stage tech move them around between scenes with choreographed precision! (we don't have a lot of offstage space!). I didn't run that particular show, but did help...

    Video Monitoring

I would be surprised if any type of webcam/computer would have a sufficiently low latency for the actors. You'll likely want a camera with an HDMI (or SDI) out, connected directly to a display with an HDMI (or SDI) input. We did find on our display that it had a "Gaming mode" that disabled...

Problem getting HDMI capture card to work with Panasonic HC-X1

Thanks. I'll dig further into the HDMI/HDCP handshake. I just wish there were some decent tools to monitor what is going on. Like so many other "automatic" things - HDMI is great when it works, but when it doesn't, it seems very challenging to troubleshoot.

Problem getting HDMI capture card to work with Panasonic HC-X1

We recently acquired a Panasonic HC-X1 camera to use in a Live production environment, and we're trying to get it's output signal into our video production equipment. I'm stuck and need y'alls expert help!Signal chain 1 (no input): Panasonic HC-X1 (HDMI) -> HDMI to SDI converter (Monoprice...

Getting students (12-18) interested in theatre Tech

It looks like you've got a great start on this program and it should be very good.Other subjects/sections to consider:Lighting: - Follow-spots (if your theater is equipped) - Throw vs Brightness vs beam angle (maybe this is buried in the Types of Light section?) - DMX vs audio cabling...

    Control/Dimming DMX Advice

In an ideal world, only DMX cabling should be used for carrying DMX signals. However, although far from ideal, I have run DMX through an audio snake (before I knew better). However, it was only a 75' snake that only had a few channels of audio running in it. I would presume the pressbox of...

    DMX address hell

There are probably many people here (including me, of course) who are always looking to expand their knowledge and experience and would like more information on your approach. Would you care to share details? TIA!

    DMX address hell

Believe it or not, it seems like you are both saying the same thing - the terminology can be confusing: "Each instrument should have it's own set of DMX addresses, then let the console group them as needed."Here's a more detailed procedure that highlights this concept: 1) Set each lighting...

A School Full of Problems - MIXER HELP!!

This is good advice - especially if you're only going to use the equipment once a year or so, or if your show run in only a few days.Unfortunately, every time I've tried to rent equipment for anything more than a few days, it's almost the same cost as purchasing! Maybe I'm not looking in the...

A School Full of Problems - MIXER HELP!!

Re-readings the original post, this may only be a drama, not a musical. If it's just a drama, then vocal projection is ABSOLUTELY the right answer. If you still need sound effects, pre-show music, etc. that could potentially leverage the installed system (maybe with a small mixer). If it's a...

A School Full of Problems - MIXER HELP!!

If your total budget is $3k, you are going to run into challenges with wireless mics. How many do you need? Most shows I've done are at least 10, and 20 is nicer - even used lower-end 600MHz (that are only good for few years) are going to run $200+ per channel (trans/rcvr set). However, with...

Wanting to Build a Rack for Wireless Receivers (And Some Other Questions)

Agreed - if there are any issues with a mic, the very first thing I check is the receiver faceplate (what's the RF level, is there audio level, is there a battery indicator), then I continue along the chain...Unfortunately, at my local church, they moved all of the receiver backstage a few...

Wanting to Build a Rack for Wireless Receivers (And Some Other Questions)

Just agreeing with almost everything that Joel is saying in his post. A few additional/differing points: 1) Antenna distros are not manufacturer-specific (just check the frequency ranges, and maybe the gains, etc.). This is why you can use an RF Venue antenna distro with any brand antenna/amp...

    Retrofitting Theatre Lighting Gear

Even though instruments in the $400 range might be sufficient (depending on throw, etc.), you still wouldn't get many - and if your'e just now moving to LEDs, you'll likely need a new lighting board which will chew up a few thousand.Overall, I tend to agree with Nicolai - it seems incredulous...
