    Dimmers burning...

Well, it looks like the product in question has a history of doing this. That said, just because you put two 575 lamps on the dimmer doesn't mean that there was not an overload or short circuit that caused the problem. Regardless of the litany of problems others have mentioned with those...

The weirdest thing you've ever found...

Well, there was the mattress, tea lites and empty condom wrappers on the grid of the last theatre I worked in. I was at least grateful the students disposed of the condoms themselves...

    Control/Dimming ETC D20 Dimmer Failure

Sounds like a blown SCR/power cube. SCRs fail on, either as a design feature, or just by nature, I've never figured out which. But it makes such failures easy to detect because it behaves just as you've described. Replacing the power cube in a D20 is pretty easy, and generally cheaper than...

    Random "flashing" fixtures

Is it consistently the same slot/s in the rack? If so, are the problematic slots on the same power phase? If the input power dips to low, that could cause the rack to disable those dimmers to protect them. You'd see this more often during a performance/service because you'll have more of a...

looking for LED strip lights AND a good deal

I just finished a show with 3 ColorKinetic ColorBlaze72 units. (The 72 is the length.) I was quite pleased with the vertical throw and the color mixing of these units. You'd need at least five units for your 30' width, and a sixth unit would be nice if you can afford it. They're a fairly...

    XLR Or DMX?

Theoretically. However, the DMX-512A standard specifies what is permissible on pins 4&5. If you were to try this and send some errant voltage to devices that aren't expecting it, you could well end up frying some equipment.

    USHIO Synergy LED MR16

I contacted USHIO when this lamp came out with this very question. Their position is that this is designed for a single lamp, track lighting fixture. The LED replacement needs decent ventilation that USHIO feels is not present in strip light fixtures.

Total newbie looking for some answers

Be aware that most theatrical lighting products are not rated for residential use, and carry large tags to that effect.Yes, you'll be able to plug them in at home and use them, but should anything go wrong the odds are your home/renters insurance will not cover you and suing the manufacturer...

    Hazer Placement

As has been mentioned, it all depends on the air flow in your theatre. I would suggest the first show you use it on, have one crew person devoted to the haze. Each night of tech rehearsal, try it in a different location. Then tear your hair out the first time you have an audience and the air...
