    any helpfull tips

If you're going to be calling from backstage definatly have a mini sewing kit with you. I also tend to take an old Altoids tin and put in some small stuff there. Extra mini-post its, a very small pencil, some aspirin. That kind of thing. Bandaids and so on. Just in case something goes on with...

    Keep the actors excited

Since you're still at a high school level then just let them have fun with it as well. Not slacking or so on. But rather allow them to order for pizza to have at the end of rehearsal, reward the first ones to memorize their script and be off the book before you ask them to be. That kind of...

    TDing

I have to agree with OnWithTheShow. I've TD'ed a couple shows here at my high school and the most recent one I had to run the light board because I was short on crew. Well my ASM backstage (the only one backstage I might add. But we weren't using wireless mics and there was hardly set changes)...

    Stage Management Kits

Giving out actors notes at the end of the rehearsal is also more personal. And they're less likely to forget because it's written down as well. That's something I kind of overlooked because I'm so used to doing it that I forget that others don't. :?

    SM v. ASM

I usually get my ASM to do anything that I don't have time to do. Does that count as slavery?? =P Nah, I try to be good to my ASM but he does end up doing a lot of the work that I just don't get the time to do... checking props (we don't have Props Managers), giving actor warnings, getting the...

Spotlight Operator Killed at Bowie Concert

Safety always comes first. And at the same time... oh gosh. Wally's friends, family and co-workers are definatly in my prayers. Godspeed Wally.

    Stage Management Kits

Typically I carry around a mini-first aid kit in my SM kit as well. Then there's the usual, gaffer tape, extra batteries, pencils, paper, extra copy of the script, post its, water, money, and a sugar supply (candy, energy tablets, anything to keep the energy up). I also always have a couple...

    Assistant SM

The SM is the most important member of the crew here. They're the ones who've usually worked everything (high school : sound, lights, spot, backstage running crew, TD, ASM). I'm biased tho!

    Lighting tutorials and systems

That was just an idiot from the hire company though. Personally I'm not fond of the Frog desks because we have a Zero88 in one of our auditoriums which gives us a LOT of problems.

    Urgent Sound FX help

I still can't thank you guys enough. dj_illusions, I wish I had equipment like that here!! I just ended up making a regular CD with the SFX on it the way that they appear in the script. I dream of a real theatre area (not something that is used as a lunchroom) and real sound equipment....

    props table?

I guess I'm lucky enough that both backstages in my school are connected to a hallway that I can use to put my prop table if need be. I'd suggest though making the actors check every night to see if their props are there anyways. I've found that, although they may not care about other people's...

    Stage Manager backstage

Definatly backstage. As a TD/SM myself I've never managed a show watching it (quite honestly I can't remember the last time I worked on a show and saw it from the front). At the same time however I always delegate a lot of small tasks to my ASM for practical reasons (I graduate in 9 weeks)...

    Some high school stage manager

=) Mayhem, actually I'm not positivly sure just yet. I keep on looking at NIDA, WAAPA, VCA and QUT and everytime I see something new that I love at each school. If I get into more than one it'll be a tough choice. Any tips? Nephilium I'll definatly let you know about the Blue Man Group's new...

What safety practices can you list....

--Double check any light that you've hung (we have the worst ceiling in our auditiorium. First off, the auditorium itself is used for a lunchroom usually so it's one level and we have maybe 3 permanent bars to hang lights from which are safe and have passed the Berlin safety test. The ceiling is...
