Choral Risers & Shells - Proper Angles

Yes most risers are stock items. I am sure there are specifics on how long or tall you want them. I am also sure you can purchase venue specific risers, but they would be very costly unless the space was only a choral auditorium.

Making People Fly...Without using a fly system.

One of the "cooler" effects I saw in Drowsy Chaperon was when they had the sky cyc fly in, which made the airplane look like it was flying out. Now to achieve this effect you need to have enough fly space to basically have a double the height drop, or do something on rollers, like a big scroll.

    Aisle Lights

I just did the Chorus Line National Touring Company, and for the initial reveal of the mirrors, they asked and I got permission from the Fire Marshal to turn off the aisle lights for the first black out, lasting no more then 30 seconds. At that same time we had ushers cover the exit signs with...

A message from Uncle BillWhat is it about the holidays that cause normal people to lose their minds?Beginning in late October I start getting calls from community group technical directors, church deacons and high school music teachers who want to fly an actor in their holiday show...

    Fire Curtain

I don't understand your question? A Fire curtain is most like any other curtain in your house, so maintenance would be the same as you would on the fly system. Checking all connections and running it monthly would be the only thing I can think of.

    Fire Curtain

I know there was a little talk of Fire Curtains in one of the other posts, but it warrants a post of it's own. I have a photocopy of a photocopy made into a pdf version of the Universal Building Code and the International Building Code, but does anyone have a good copy of either. I am looking...

    Firecode

I would find out exactly what is meant by that. OSHA guidelines on that is for permanent installation it is wrong to do, but for temporary installs it is fine.

    Firecode

NFPA 701: Standard Methods of Fire Tests for Flame Propagation of Textiles and Films, is the federal standard, however your local Fire Department may have more strict rules, so definitely check with them. As for the length of the flame proofing, check with the original goods manufacturer. The...

    Weight Loaders

The reason I ask is my main theater is a 2100 seat road house. I am new here in the past they have only been sending 1 up. It is 85' up to the loading bridge. We only ever move 1 line at a time, unless it is a touring broadway, and then that is dictated by the head carpenter. They send up...

Is it economically safe to pursue a career in technical theatre?

To answer this part of the question. Yes you can commute. I knew a guy that did it from Orange, CT, just outside of Milford. I will say that if you are going to commute you will be spending a lot of time on train station benches. As you probably know that Metro North runs with limited...
