soundlight

I've been involved in entertainment tech since fifth grade when I ran rotary dimmers on a wall next to the stage for the talent show. I graduated to a Dove Scenemaster in 6th grade - then a Lightronics system in 7th and 8th grade. I overhauled the middle school tech program (which was nonexistent when I got there), and had them get new sound equipment. I moved on to high school, and immediately went to the drama teacher and asked to run the light board. I quickly got involved with that, and was the Student Technical Director from Sophomore year on. I completely redid the booth, dug out equipment that should have been used but hadn't been in years, and took the program from lights-up/lights-down to designing shows that used what little color we had from R40 strips that I recircuited overhead. I also miraculously secured a new (to us) light board (Colortran Encore with the massive go button) for simply the cost of shipping it.

I was't decided on theatre as a major until after stopping by Bucknell University on the whirlwind college tour of Pennsylvania, and meeting the technical director/lighting designer/sound designer there. I was convinced that theatre was to be continued in college.

I worked every single production possible freshman year, then a few less sophomore year, then a few less junior year, and then I worked almost all of them again senior year. After helping out various bar bands, I decided to write the Basic Band Lighting Guide, for people who don't understand how to set up their little Chauvet lighting systems.

I worked for over 6 years as a moving light technician for a production and rental company in the PA/NJ region.

I'm currently a partner in Squeek Lights in NJ providing concert touring lighting.

I'm that youtube light show guy.

Nothing is ever "state of the art"...something new comes out the next day.
