    Audio-Technica Wireless Problems

Okay the company I am employed by just did sound and lighting reinforcement for a high class fundraiser for the Children's Miracle Network. Here are the very basic room and equipment parameters so you can get an idea of the venue. We located our FOH at the back of the theatre no more than 150...

Another Miracle....we can get a new audio console :-) Now which one?

Go with a LS9-32. You can't beat what it offers for the price. Purchase the I/O cards and you'll still be under your budget and add more channels. Layering is nothing difficult and layers are switched with the push of a single button. With the digital you wont need the comp/gates nor any of the...

    So... Analog or Digital

Okay. I was really against Presonus... And I have no idea why right now. I just looked into a Presonus StudioLive 16.4.2 and I believe this is the console I will buy. I have checked many sites and many reviews and all I have heard are good things. Obviously not the most amazing thing in the...

    So... Analog or Digital

The fact that it is a studio board does not make a difference with the live sound aspect does it ? Or does the 'live' part in StudioLive mean it works for both applications?

    So... Analog or Digital

After my last post concerning sound equipment, I'd like to get a more specific answer for one of the questions posed: Do I want an analog or digital console? As many if not most people in sound, I started my education on an analog console, an Allen & Heath ML5000 at one of the theatres I work...

    Gadgets

I agree fully. I mean... If you are just starting, you should speak with your higher ups and see what is appropriate. I have seen other students that have been suspended for much less than I have. Its always good to know your place (even its just for a short time) and know what is allowable for...

    QOTD: Mic'ing a Tap Floor

I'm not sure on this 100%, but I do know when I first started doing sound, I tried using floor boundary mics to pick up orchestral sound (dumb, we all make mistakes when learning) and as it turned out they made great mics to pick up the performers foot steps... Not sure what brand to recommend...

    Gadgets

The policy in our district is zero tolerance of knives and weapons. Though I'd be lying if i said that I haven't walked through our cafeteria during a lunch period (600 kids approx) wearing a hardhat and tool belt (with wrenches, ratchets, multimeter, utility knife, pliers, ect) and approached...

    Small Touring Sound Set-Up

And yes. Events of 500 would probably be our limit. However we have done indoor venues with the same setup and have have 8 or 9 hundred people. Of course, indoors require less sound.

    Small Touring Sound Set-Up

Look. Like I said. I'm up for creative criticism, but not for an all out bashing of my gear and myself. Due to my location and finances and the finances of this particular company, I can usually do very decently with what I am provided with. I've shown up to gigs and they want crystal clear...

    Small Touring Sound Set-Up

Jeff, thank you very much. This is a lot of useful information.I feel like I should throw out there that I'm only 17 years old. Most kids my age are wanting a nice new $20,000 car and I'm looking for that in equipment.Everyone hates on the feedback suppression, and I don't really need it. I...

    My Life Isn't Real

I really wish that I could have a career in sound... I love doing it, and if I could, I'd do it for free even though that will never be possible. However I have to have a 'real' job my parents say so I'm going into medicine. My mom, after working in theatre for years speaks against it strongly...

    My Life Isn't Real

Haha. Uh I intend to major in Biology and then get a degree in Emergency and Trauma Medicine. If i had to pick a minor, it'd be in sound mixing... For craps and giggles.

    My Life Isn't Real

As for the school, we don't own it (yes I know I said it that way) the school owns it. But we have authorized permissions to purchase equipment and materials for the building. We just refer to it as 'ours' and say we 'own' it. But it really is at the point that we might as well.

    My Life Isn't Real

Well... There is a lot I feel like I should say... First of all, I'm in high school; but I work for the largest public theatre for several counties around mine, I'm also employed by a private sound reinforcement company, I do all of the video and audio broadcast for our city council and sub...
