    Somebody please explain...

    Ah, no . . . . it sounds like a situation where a dimmer failure is probable, nothing more . . . - Tim

Macs or no macs? thats is the question.

Well, now that you mention it, I went back and looked, and they did not say dry - I guess I just assumed it, since I am leery of anything solvent based or liquid in that environment - but that would be a heck of a lot easier to get between the leaves . . . . This is the specific excerpt from...

Macs or no macs? thats is the question.

The Studio Color uses an iris to dim, with the strobe shutter providing the final cutoff. I have some older units as well, and the irises (and it IS he iris . . . . . ) do get a bit noisy. HES support indicated to lube them with dry graphite, and while it has helped, they could stil be better...

    Rosco Vortex 360 gobo rotators

I'm bettinng friction. It takes a lot more force to get something moving than it takes to keep it moving. So, my bet is that you have them set so slow that they don't have enough "grunt" to get started once stopped. - Tim

    Fresnel Lenses

The lamp would tend to induce a pretty even heat distribution, I would think, with cooler stress points where the uninsulalted clips would sink off the heat to the chassis of the instrument . . . - Tim

    Fresnel Lenses

SteveB led me to think of something which might be going on here . . . since the lens is only held in with 4 "clips", then depending on whether the case is hotter or cooler than the lens, these will create either hot or cold points on the perimiter of the lens, which can set up brutal thermal...

    Followspot Survey

Lycians are really nice, although for the big stuff, I prefer Strong. Alman is, well, cheap and easily found, but not much else I can say that is good about them . . . (In my opinion, at least . . . ) - Tim

    Wiring for a new board

Depending on what the signal coming back is. (DMX or just a voltage?) you may want to make up and interface to an idiot light on the wall to dislay the overheat signal . . . . if you have it, why not use it? - Tim

    Old Superior Electric stuff . . . .

No, these are a long way past rheostat, but not quite into the SCR/Triac days. They are solid state controlled, and the nice thing is that they have a pure sine wave output, no matter what level they are at. The down side is very low density, and weight! - Tim

    Old Superior Electric stuff . . . .

Analog, 0-12V 1/2 wave AC control, as I recall . . . . as I said, this stuff is OLD! I got it in the mid 80's and is was already old then! - Tim

    Old Superior Electric stuff . . . .

Portable and truck are pretty accurate - the dimmers for this thing are about 75 lbs. EACH, with no racking. This is pretty much a permanent installation system, but I can still get pix if you are still interested. Keep in mind that although the console is 20 channel, I only have about 8 or 10...

    Old Superior Electric stuff . . . .

Folks - Just digging around the other day and realized that I have an old Superior Electric "Luxtrol" 20 channel two scene w/manual console that was originally used with magnetic amplifier dimmers. I really don't have a use for this thing any more, and it is killing lots of space. Since there...
