    "The Sexy Side of Rigging"

Point Taken.I guess if it were up to me I'd do it the other way around - go get the ticket that says i can do this work without killing anyone, THEN learn the nifty tricks of the trade.

    "The Sexy Side of Rigging"

If that's the case, I hope the "sexy" Jay Glerum is very careful in what he shows people. After all "A little knowledge is a dangerous thing".

    "The Sexy Side of Rigging"

Good grief i can't believe i have to say this but... Any rigger who doesn't know his hardware SHOULD NOT BE RIGGING!

    Magnets and digital gear

So my boss keeps insisting that all the digital gear in out inventory needs to be kept well away from the speakers, especially sub woofers, when packing a truck and being put away in the warehouse as the magnets may corrupt data on flash drives in the equipment - particularly the digital...

    Microphones Phase Cancellation?

I Agree with the above post :)Reversing the polarity or delaying the mics may fix the issue at some frequencies, but it'll cause a whole new set of comb filtering issues.Sadly there is no magic solution. The easiest thing in my experience is to start pulling one mic out as the actors move...

    C-wrench discussion

The C-Wrench / Crescent wrench must be an American specific thing. I'm in Tasmania - try asking for either of those down here and you'll just get a blank look. We call them shifters, or shifting spanners. Out of interest, any of you folks know what a podger is? Or is that another aussie...

Ringing out and Equalizing a FOH with onstage monitors

Seconded. Without a cardioid style mic or a dedicated monitors board you're probably going to find it's like pushing excrement up an inclined plane. Incidentally if i'm doing monitors from FOH with outboard EQ's it's a lot easier to just unpatch the graphics, carry them down to stage and...

Loudspeakers Looking for the right speakers for PA System

If you're going to run in bridged mode, be aware that the minimum impedance for bridged amplifiers is double the minimum impedance of the same amplifiers in dual mono operation.Example - Two amplifiers, each rated 100 watts maximum into 4 ohms, in bridge mode they will appear as a mono amp...

    Sound Board Placement

Because with line array's (generally) wider coverage angles, more of the audience is able to both sides of the PA, so being in the middle is not such an issue as it might be otherwise.

    Sound Board Placement

Incidentally, I only run the mixing console in the centre of the room if i'm using a line array system. I've found with point source rigs that, whilst being in the centre of the room is no doubt the best the pest place for sound / stereo image etc, that's not what the majority of people in...

    Audio Tutorials - fav links

Pro Audio Knowledge Articles by Electro-Voice EV's numerous knowledge articles. A lot of it is fairly dated, and specific to their gear, but an excellent resource nonetheless.

    Irritated with rental microphones

Provided you use wide band paddles. I'm not so knowledgeable with the sennheisers, but alot of the paddles we have for our shure systems are only good for 1 band. If i were you I'd be ringing them up, explaining the problem and asking for the paddles. Better late than never eh? If they still...

    "Hiring" an Intern

My usual attitude toward the situation - If they can lug gear for hours on end a coil a lead to your company / venue's standard, they're worth at least casual employment. Then they can work their way up from there.

Analog user seeking simple digital board

I've had mixed experiences with them. Had a choir recently in a cathedral that had an LS-9 in house, and mic'd the chior with all Neumann KM84's. I ended up bringing in a Midas Venice 32, racks and all because the sound of the LS-9 just wasn't up to scratch. On the other hand i'd use them...
