    Martin Atomic 3000

I'm looking to rent some strobes for an upcoming show. The rental house I'm looking at (not a ton of options around me) told me that their Martin 3000 Atomic strobes needed 220V power. I looked up every version of the Atomic strobes that I could find and they all claim 100-240V auto sensing...

Best bang for the buck in gobo rotators?

Every place I have worked or designed usually stocks a few Gam TwinSpin units, and they work wonderfully, but they're pretty pricey if you're working on a shoestring budget.In-line control... $650, DMX... more like $800. Of course that's the price from Gam, and I don't know what you'd...

New to lighting design in theatre

Again, it depends on what look you want. If you have just one light for each area we will assume that it is coming from pretty much straight on. To anyone looking at an actor in that area straight on, they will look pretty normal, but the guy 15 feet to the left is going to see some shadows...

New to lighting design in theatre

There are several ways to go about this (and by several I mean countless). What you probably mean is that you are trying to get five distinct "looks" for your stage. I think you are saying that you have nine areas. With some smartly picked gels, you should be able to handle the natural light...

plugging my pars into regular edison outlets

and addressing the short vs. long term point: Either should be safe as long as your adapters are the same gauge cable as your other cable. I've seen people run lights through an adapter just to check... and also as long as to set up a lobby display. Just think of it as another appliance in...

plugging my pars into regular edison outlets

So basically: Yes it is safe, as long as you do your homework A. Use the correct 12/3 cable B: Know what else is plugged into that circuit (sometimes you have to check the prints of the building if it's old, they don't always have the most practical or safe wiring) C: Know the wattage of your...

    Conventional Fixtures SkyCyc RGB?

Make your old cyc lights smart?I was looking at my cyc lights, old 3 cell units, and talking to my TD about led options, and we thought... "If you can put a colorblazer or other simple led strip light up there, patch it into your board (Ion in this case), and then choose the color...

    Lighting a CYC

Are you the lighting designer for this show? I would call the bluff on whoever the set designer is that put scaffolding that close to the cyc and still expects it to be lit properly. But there are other ways to light a cyc. Most of it depends on what type of instruments you have at your...

    Working with Choreographers...

Am I crazy, or are choreographers just statistically more likely to drive LDs to insanity?I don't want to go into details, but if anyone has a story about working with choreographers that might cheer me up (rough tech week), I would forever love them.

    Control/Dimming Fun Dimmer Solution

Sadly our mainstage still has a massive patch bay...... but on the upside it's being replaced with two racks of dimmers this winter, so only one or two more shows with the old behemoth.

    Control/Dimming Fun Dimmer Solution

all good suggestions, though I checked and the switches are rated to 20A, not sure where they were purchased. I am interested in rebuilding/improving this as it had to be put together on a rather tight schedule.

    Control/Dimming Fun Dimmer Solution

A recent performance of Marat Sade called for more dimmers than our black box had, so our TD fashioned this handy little switcher box. Worked quite well, and a nice solution for anyone with the same problem.lets us put two or four circuits onto a single dimmer.
