Radio call as in comm(clearcom,telex)? Could always get a dry feed of the comm system, throw it on a channel of the desk, then put a gate to duck the band level whenever cues are called on comm and feed this to your in ear mix.

HDCP can not be distributed via SDI. How are you planning on converting analog signals[cable box and Apple TV) to SDI, the native format the Television studio is running?

Place I work stores them in round Tuppaware. May take a little more space, but is relatively crush proof, and keeps them fresh for weeks ;) .

Regarding safety and control. Is it unacceptable to use the VFD to control the motor? The operator will have a clear line of site to the turntable at all times. An emergency stop will also be in place to ensure power is cut to the motor if any safety concern arises.
