    Technical Personal Statement/CV

Hi Jake, I've just applied to several drama schools for Stage Management/Technical Theatre courses. I had to write a Personal Statement and CV for all of them, it's a relatively simple task and is basically used to assess whether they want to interview you.I'm assuming mine was pretty good as...

Use of trig in lighting design

I think most things I can think of have been covered. As soon as I started doing Lighting Designs for school and am-dram shows I went and apologised to my Maths teacher; I'd basically sat through the lessons saying how useless trigonometry was, and that I'd never use it in my life. Oh how wrong...

    Angled Walls & Cost

Thanks a lot for the help guys :) Van I shall do what you said and design my 'dream' before cutting it down. Aaron I'll make sure that everything is rated to the necessary spec, and it's also a good idea to add those lines to help the suspension. Thanks a lot, Tim

    Angled Walls & Cost

Hi there, I am currently designing the set for a theatre workshop that will be taking place in a few months time. The play is set in an attic/loft, which to me, means sloping ceilings, a couple of skylights etc. I am looking at creating a box set style set, the stage is small (6m...

    Advice for a Newbie

I recently Designed a production of Fiddler on the Roof for my school in the UK.As the others have said, we don't want to spoon feed you a design. However, if you want a few ideas, have a look at the 'Show your show' thread, there are a few pictures from my design in there. They might give...

    Oh my....

I'd like to apologise for my previous post. I realise that perhaps I was rather harsh. I also apologise for coming over as 'holier than thou', I was merely trying to put it into context, as I personally believe (and this is my personal opinion, and I'm sorry if some of you don't agree with...

    Oh my....

I don't mean to be insulting Sean, but how is a 14 year old a moving light 'specialist'? I'm 17, and have been student lighting technician at my school since I was 12, lighting a friend's band for two years, and doing Am-dram shows since I was 14. In the past three years, I have come in...

Are PARs, On PAR with my needs?

I don't know all the correct terminology, so you'll have to bear with me here. Would it be possible to use a longer sidearm, attach it to the upright as you originally said, and then attach it to the wall of the proscenium? I'm sure I've scene square plates somewhere, which have a piece...

Curious . . What brand gel and what does it cost?

Re: Curious . . What grand gel and what does it cost?I'm paying about £4 a sheet, I don't know how the dollar's feeling at the moment, but that's probably around $7-8.For a roll I'm looking at about £60.Do you buy in Rolls and Sheets in the US?I've only ever bought one Roll. And that...

    A lonely door

Do you have flying equipment? If you do, you could fly the door in when it's needed, maybe have a small lip behind it with a stageweight or two to make it steady when it's opened and closed (I assume it needs to be openable?). Also make sure you have some form of catch or lock so that you don't...

Help on a Hazer to rent...?

It depends how you want to be controlling the machine, and whether you want water or oil based. There are pros and cons to both. I would most likely go with DF-50, I've used it several times in the past and it served me well :)
