    A lonely door

I built a series of doors for a dance number, that were designed to be multipurpose, painted differently on either side, and opened both ways. They were repositioned from many angles, so I did not want there to be any visible supports.I built them onto 3' diameter circular bases made of 1/4"...

    Cow in Fools (Need Help!)

Look around to people who have performed Gypsy. I made a full cow suit for that show. I have seen it down with cows that did not look too cartooney.

    saw horses / work tables

I have my tech crew build saw horses at the beginning of each year. Not the folding kind, just basic A-frames. I show them how to build one, then leave them the prototype and let them have at it. It's a great way to get comfortable with the tools and the shop.

    Meet Me In St. Louis

Here are pics of the set and show.It went really well. The real challenges were the moving cable car, which I was happily surprised that many people could not figure out (I guess they never watched the Flintstones), and the fact that we were able to move the entire set offstage for the...

Locks for a moving set piece

We just tried these floor locks on a moving staircase, and they worked pretty well:http://www.globalindustrial.com/gcs/product/productInfo.web?infoParam.mode=1&infoParam.itemKey=30118139 We had to build a brace on the back of the set piece to mount them, because the staircase was already...

    A set of French Doors

Craigslist.org is also a great resource for free or low cost stuff. If they have one in your area.

    Tradition!

We have a lot of fun traditions. Our shop room has posters signed by all the crew, and any of the actors that helped with the set, or acted as running crew during the performance. Before each show, the tech and actors all do the circle thing, and sing songs and such. There was, for many...

    Meet Me In St. Louis

Thanks, I use Lightwave to model and render. I have a background in computer animation and graphics, and it is a tool I am comfortable with. I hope to use Lightwave to design the lighting as well.....once I learn a bit more about lighting.

    Curtain call for crew?

Great topic. At our High School, we have two Thursday matinees before each weekend of shows, and we invite grade schools. After each show, we invite the schools to ask questions to the actors and crew, who sit onstage as a group. Easily, 90% of the questions are always directed to the...

    Meet Me In St. Louis

Thanks for the input. I probably am gonna try projections for the worlds fair, since I can animate the photos I have, and perhaps throw in the electrical buildings "Lighting up".I had not thought about the hedge maze, did you put this in for the worlds fair?

    Meet Me In St. Louis

Has anyone done this show? Any cool designs for the Worlds Fair? I am just starting building, and have a full, rolling Trolley Car, a Victorian facade with interior on the other side, and a couple of masking pieces, with trees on one side and Monuments for the Finale, but not much else so...

    Collapsing Stage?

That sounds really effective. I have not yet used any pnuematics in any of my sets, I pretty much rely on mechanical means. Our stage was basically a hinged 12' x8' platform with the downstage sitting on 4 wheeled 4x6 legs. We attached a long brace to the axle that ran through the legs, and...

    Collapsing Stage?

We recently did Inspecting Carol, and rigged up a pretty neat collapsing stage. I am curious how others did it, since I almost always overbuild. Any tips?
