    Vari-lite VL1KTS

On ETC's site there is a "non-tested" one - VL1000 (19 Channel) http://www.etcconnect.com/service/service_xprn_pers.asp You can try this mystery guy and see if it works. I don't know why they only have the T and TI for download... kind of odd.....

    NCarts and Portfolios

I'll give it a shot, I'm no sound person but here's what I believe should be included: First of all - ANY type of work should be included, if they did lights, Include the plot. Even if it's only for sound include it anyway. -Note- this is more of a college thing, once you break into the...

    Design Mediums

SteveB I agree with you about using pictures for a lighting design (which is why I was un-sure if this was th right forum...), as a scenic designer the use of pictures or models or what not are a must. For a lighting designer however, there isn't much you can really do. I personally don't do...

    Design Mediums

I'm assuming since this is in the lighting section you're talking about lighting and not set. In which case - why air brush, why bother? Ok anywho, either sketches of the particular lighting concept one is trying to portray (since you don't need to do them all) or like you said watercolor...

    Offline Editors/board Emulators

Yes you can run other programs in DosBox Propmonkey - Once you open DosBox it puts you Z: drive. Type in intro. It will give you all the information you used to get started which basically looks like this: Step 1: create a folder that you want DosBox to recognize as its "C" drive. such as...

    Offline Editors/board Emulators

DosBox - dosbox.sourceforge.net Strand Software - Their site is weird the address doesn't change since it's flash or something so, go to http://www.strandlight.com/US/Index.htm then go to the tab that says support and then to software.

    Offline Editors/board Emulators

I use an emulator called DosBox to run the strand software on my computer. It emulates the dos program so you can run programs that require DOS on windows. It's quite nifty, a little bit annoying at times, but better then having to install DOS and what not.

    CAD examples

For the most part I normally see a lot of 2D designs, and then a model is made for the 3D aspect. Usually you can get your point across with a 2D design and it's easier to do. Sometimes though if it's a difficult concept to understand you may want to make a 3D version so people understand what...

    Light Board Recommendation?

It is more durable not neccessarily more reliable. It can take more punishment from people. The structure of the board and the buttons and what not can take more punishment then the ETC board. I didn't say it was more reliable, they're 2 different things.

    Light Board Recommendation?

The ETC Express and the Strand 300 are the two competitors for the cheaper boards class. While both are very good boards the Strand 300 supposedly handles moving lights and scrollers (aka intelligent fixtures) better and also tends to be more durable then the ETC counterpart. However, one...

    Strand SL Lenses?

One more thing, your question about the barrel just made me realize something. Here's a good visualizer for everyone. When you soften and sharpen the edges you are indead changing the focal length by a tiny bit. Look at what happens to the beam when you go too far in either direction. It...

    Strand SL Lenses?

Ugh, you beat me to my edit, re-read my post before yours for the explanation. Sorry, I decided to add detail but I didn't get it done in time. :(

    Strand SL Lenses?

Haha, I just realized something. When I say "rolling the barrel" I mean moving it forward or backward in other words, sharpening or softening the edges. It's become habit for me to use this phrase because so many designers I've worked with in the past have used that term to say soften the edges...

    Strand SL Lenses?

No, this is different. This throws the whole light out of focus. Rolling the barrel most likely won't fix something like that. It's almost as if the light (the actual light not the fixture) is distorted. It's a problem of its own. Don't forget as well the loss in intensity and don't forget, that...

    Strand SL Lenses?

Though I've never actually tried moving the lenses, in theory, by moving the lens of the light into a different slot you loose a lot of efficiency. Each lens was mathematically calculated for its position, shape and size to get the perfect angle to maximize the use and increase efficiency. By...
