    "Drop Mic"?

I'm working on a university musical, and the sound design mentor and the faculty SM are consistently using the phase "drop mic" to describe a hairline mic. Has anyone actually heard that phrase before? I couldn't find a single mention of it on the first few pages of Google, or when I searched...

    Does QLab3 support manual fade-out-and-stop?

Hitting escape fades out all current signal, and double-tapping escape will take it out immediately. But as far as I know, there's no easy way to manually take out a cue. One of the tabs in the display shows you the waveform, and it's where you set up your fade envelope, and the name of it...

Good for a new Sound System?

For just two shows a year, renting gear could be a great option for y'all, unless you're planning to produce decent-sized musicals in there. And it doesn't seem like you should really need much in the way of sound reinforcement in that space, as it is.

    Baylor theatre technology

Do you know how seriously they actually look at the portfolio versus how how you impress them in the interview? I'm very confident on the interview, so that could potentially be my anchor.

    Baylor theatre technology

Yeah, I just came in for the orientation today and they told me that the department requires a portfolio and interview. I'm not worried about the interview, but I never saw myself actually majoring in theatre at all, so I was never concerned with getting pictures of my builds. And my design...

    Baylor theatre technology

Baylor does do musicals, and the bio or math is just what I have right now. If I can figure out what I'm doing, I'm going to major in tech. What is over hire work?

    Baylor theatre technology

I'm going to Baylor University in the fall and I'm planning to try to major in either biology or math and minor in theatre technology, with an emphasis in sound design if I can. My goal is to be an A1. I've been doing sound reinforcement and a little bit of design and I've been building sets for...

    Your Favorite Tech Theater Lesson

My high school program was only a few years old, and we were on our third telecom director/teacher in ffice years, but we still had a program that was pretty well respected nationally because we were able to actually have a varsity tech crew that our TD could work with, and we always did well at...

Reverb without the decay - choir recorded too close

If you're open to trying something different, I'd suggest Audacity. The Gverb is really flexible and has a lot of utility. Plus, there are people who put their Gverb settings out on the Internet with descriptions of how it sounds. Just a suggestion.

    Not receiving signal from mics

So far we have four mics not working, they're Audio-Technica ATW T341b, they're on the 655-680 MHz band, the recievers are showing rf lights when the transmitters are on, and the audio lights aren't showing anything. I'm going to try testing the receiver with a speaker and with a corded mic...

    Not receiving signal from mics

We aren't getting any signal on our console from about half of our handheld microphones and we can't figure out what the problem is. We're using a Yamaha LS9 from a booth with diversity antennae mounted on the outside of our booth and we've already checked our antennae and they're fine, our...

^Actually did this during a rehearsal recently. It was pretty funny.

    Wiring a street lamp

The switch is wired in because an actor is supposed to turn it off. He rests his hand on it for a minute and then turns it off. The cord I used is only two prong, but that's just because it's the only one I had on hand that was already missing the female end. When I get back in on Monday I'll...

    Wiring a street lamp

We're doing a production of Flowers for Algernon and I'm working on wiring a street lamp that will go to a wall socket by splicing it to an extension cord with the female end removed so it can just plug into a wall. I've already got a switch in the circuit from where the wires from the light...

    Hanging Scenery

Using fishing line isn't remotely safe for any of that, unless you're using deep-sea big fishing line. And I still wouldn't quite trust that. Use 1/8" or even 1/4" aircraft cable like you would for normal rigging. Normal hanging loops at the bottom. To prevent the caving in, take wire rope clips...
