Do you allow inexperienced light techs to use your equipment

I should mention that these are not light techs. I can't edit that subject. These are student actors who they want to use the equipment. They have no future in lighting or desire to learn more than how to turn it on and make it run.

Using halogen theatre lights for classes

A scene class is where the teacher teaches, gives homework such as a scene for one, two or more actors and then they perform the scene. They want lights on the students for the scene. Something in 20+ years of theatre classes, I've never had requested. The work lights are fine. We've been closed...

Do you allow inexperienced light techs to use your equipment

This ongoing class that wants to use our lighting system now wants me to train people who have never touched a light board to use the equipment. I realize it's not in the realm of impossibility to train people but we have a pretty firm rule, you must have experience on lighting equipment to use...

Using halogen theatre lights for classes

It's a scene class. I only want them to use them when there is a scene but they just turn them on at the beginning and leave them on the entire time, class breaks and all. It's bothering me. I've asked them not to do that and I need to speak with them again and just wanted to get my reasoning...

Using halogen theatre lights for classes

I have a group that wants to use our theatre lights for their classes. They would be on 3, 6, 8, 10 hours in a row at times. I'm just wondering the drawback for them to be used this way. Besides the insane electrical pull (about 80A) is it hard on the dimmer packs? Will lamps blow more quickly...

    MAC Axiom Hybrid comparisons

Thanks Jeff, this is really valuable info. Thanks everyone for your input.I think if we go for a less expensive fixture than the Axiom, we can get at least 2 of something. They're really set on getting movers. It's improv so the plot won't change, we'll have a bunch of looks they can choose...

    MAC Axiom Hybrid comparisons

Wow, that's a lot of great info. I might just read them this response. Thanks!! Would you have an opinion on a fixture that's not jet plane loud, can zoom, follow, has changeable gobos and doesn't need to scroll through a color wheel. As for how they'll use it... We'll want to set preset looks...

    MAC Axiom Hybrid comparisons

Interesting! I have explained to them that a mover is loud and in a 200 seat theatre, possibly too loud. I didn't know there was another option. I'll look into this. Thanks!!

    MAC Axiom Hybrid comparisons

Hi I'm working with a 200 seat theatre and they want to get a single moving light and eventually purchase more. It's an improv theatre that operates shows 2 nights a week minimum but not more than 4 shows a week. We're using a Chamsys QuickQ 30 console. I like the Axiom but with probably far...

Decades of stage paint build up removal

I've been reading the other threads and happy to not have to learn that one myself. There are areas where I can literally peel it up, it's detached from the wood below. But I fear that is not the case all over and I'll have deep areas. I am reluctant to cover it with more wood as it will...

Decades of stage paint build up removal

Hi all I work in <49 seat theatres in SF. One theatre in particular has a pretty significant build up of paint creating creases, rises and soft spots. The urge to start peeling is difficult to resist but I fear what I will unleash. Is there a way, other than removing and reinstalling the...

Sound effect machine from stage for improvisors

Thanks for replying. I thought about that but they need something a little more bulky to easily and quickly hit the sound button. I was looking at this but I'm not sure if or how it would work. https://www.akaipro.com/mpd218

Sound effect machine from stage for improvisors

Hi I work with improvisors. I want to give them a physical machine offstage that is well lit, with the ability to label buttons that can make pre-programed sounds and is connected to the speakers. I might be living in a dream world since all my searches came up empty. Does anyone know if this...

    Projection for theatre

Hi I'm looking for a short throw projector for an aprox 30' back wall that can project gobo like looks (forest, stars, city...) as well as videos, but can black out (mute) pitch black when not in use. I've been looking at the Del S71QL, Epson Powerlite and the Optoma ZH400UST. Has anyone...
