    Ethercon Termination for Behringer x32

A million times this. Are you willing to lose all your stage inputs when that stupid little tab on a standard RJ 45 breaks midshow? That just happened at the performing arts center I did a show in last week. Only a little different, we had two X32's cabled to use one as a monitor board. The...

Opinions on Cheap LED Lights, Please.

About 3 years ago, the LD at the small community theatre near my house purchased about $2000 of these cheap Chinese PARS. He ordered 45 of them. I unboxed them and set them up. Three didn't work right out of the box. Of those remaining, 20 failed before the end of the show run, about a month...

    Fall hazards

I agree. Our pipe though is mounted low just over a foot from the catwalk deck. We have to sit in order to do any of those functions. That of course still doesn't help holding an unsecured gel holder farther out.

    Fall hazards

The conventionals are roostered, the few smaller LED movers can hang straight.

    Fall hazards

I agree constant training would be an issue, especially in lower budget school arts programs. In our catwalk, the pipe itself creates the <19" required. I can't get a picture, but if you can imagine the bottom rail/floor of the catwalk, then pipe, mid-rail, electrical conduit, then top rail...

    Obey 40

It's been awhile since I have used an Obey, but I believe it's only technically possible to grab a single fixture in Programming Mode. If you are attempting to change levels in between scenes in Playback, I don't think it will do that. Well, it would if you switched back to Programming, but...

    Orchestra Shell Instrument Refit Suggestions

The specs on the Hotbox list the max ambient temp at 104 degrees. If mounted near other conventional lighting, that may be an issue. The Kreios fixtures are designed for a hardened environment.

    Ship's ladders to tech areas

That was my first reaction as well. Now, imagine trying to fiddle with the door while carrying replacement lamps, gobos, gels, etc.Even worse is that the door opens towards the room with an automatic closing device. Fire codes aside, I can imagine the 'kick' from the door as your...

    Allen & Heath Qu-32

Your USB drive must be formatted only using the Qu. A computer formatted USB drive will not work.

Pollen to blow in actor's face

How about sawdust? Most everyone has a ton of that lying around, and it's easily cleaned. Drawback is it will absorb moisture from flower's hand.

Question for High Schools: Deeper apron or deeper US?

Les' mention of rarity of US placement jolts my pet peeve with our stage. That is, more US space is useless if the sight lines from the sides of the house are blocked by the proscenium arch or tormentors.

Question for High Schools: Deeper apron or deeper US?

Seems reasonable. However, we mostly frontlight the forestage. Still comes through okay on video. For us, not at all. We don't have any means or need to suspend anything downstage of the plaster line.

Question for High Schools: Deeper apron or deeper US?

I am torn between the two choices. More upstage space gives good room for cyc and uplighting. But, we do a ton of set changes with the grand closed, using the forestage quite often. We have about 12 feet from proscenium to edge at center, about 10 feet at the left and right ends.

Is it safe to run moving lights off of a dimmer?

The short answer is no. A dimmer module uses a different method to get from 0 to 120volts than a relay module. Intelligent lighting power supplies could fail prematurely without stable voltage. Also, if power is removed to a DMX controlled LED, the fixture could restore to default when you...

Repairing clogged Chauvet 1800 Flex fog machine

Compressed air has a ton of moisture itself. If your air hose does not have a dessicant dryer, you'd be doing more harm than good. I agree leaving pump filled with non water based fluid with regular cleaning is the way to go.
