Color Kinetics Question From A Noob

My company is in the process of purchasing an old bar/club and converting it to office space. One of the bars is a plexiglass bar with a color kinetics light system inside of it. We are not sure of the exact setup, but it has some sort of LED light bars inside of it that look to be about 6 inches long. There are a good many of them. I think we counted 28 "lights", although we can't have direct access to the LED units.

These are all connected to a PDS-150e. We can turn it on and the lights come on in their "ready" state, but we have no way to control them. This was a foreclosure property, so the bank just sort of came in and ripped out stuff that looked valuable.

My question is: can I installed QuickPlayer on a computer, connect it to the PDS-150e via ethernet (rj45 jack on the circuit board labeled "ethernet") and control the lights that way?

Or do I have to run it through an ethernet router that supplies PoE?

Thanks in advance!

You probably have 24V iColor Cove EC or QLX fixtures in there. You can control the lights connected through the PDS-150e by using any DMX controller. By "ready state", I assume you mean all of the LEDs come on very dim? The fixtures will come up dim when no data is present.

You should be able to install Quick Play Pro and connect PDS with that. If you're looking for more advanced control, you can use any DMX controller.

If you want to stick with Color Kinetics controllers, you can use the iPlayer 3. For Ethernet control, you can use the Color Dial Pro with POE.

Disclaimer: I currently work for Philips Color Kinetics.

I think you are right about the light units. We can't actually access them (sealed in this plexiglass bar), but I can see the edge of one that that looks like them. Here is a picture of the bar lit up:

We now have a ColorDial Pro and a cisco switch with POE. We can connect the ColorDial to the switch and run through the menus and stuff, but it does not seem to be talking to the PDS.

When I connect my laptop to the switch and run QuickPlay, I can see that the ColorDial is showing KiNET v2 even though we went into the system settings and changed it to "mode 1". Are those the same thing? The PDS 150e is showing KiNET v1. Both are showing DMX Universe 0.

Also, I am unsure about setting the Lights/Port and Num Ports for our installation (Single PDS)
