C21 Ethernet Protocols

I had 4 CD80 racks retrofitted with the C21 processor kits and updated wall panels to SVN. In the end everything worked well, but be careful who you source the project to. We hired a well known Chicago based strand dealer, and the just bombed the whole process. Complete horrible service from start of install until we finally got rid of them and had strand tech support walk us through the rest.

It's a real simple upgrade, so any quality strand company should be able to knock it out in a day or two.

C21 works great, we just use DMX and SVN, but it does have some ACN support, as well as Strands network and dimmer software to monitor rack status.

PM me if you have more specific private questions I can answer. Thanks!

I have switched over a number of CD-80 SV racks to C 21. Its a reasonably simple physical process to get the new processor into the rack. Most of the control wiring is easy to change over, and the kit comes with adaptors to fit the rack outputs of the SV rack. Programming is reasonably easy, with lots of options for the rack. You browse the racks with a standard web browser for setup.

I used to be a dealer, so I may be more familiar with the interior of a CD-80 rack than most people, but I am sure there is someone in your area that has done this already.

I have done a few changes for other theatres here in Alberta, and I am changing out the 14 SV racks I have here in my theatre, 2 or 3 a year as budget allows.

As a matter of interest, what is driving your need for ACN for the racks?

We are doing a show next season that is going to stretch the limits of the existing control network, so some upgrades are going to be done, namely switching to ETCnet. We were already looking at upgrading the CD80's to Sensor racks or to C21 processors. However we have a Unison Paradigm rack, so I can just use that as a DMX gateway.
