Selling old consoles. Is it worth it?

We have a bunch of old consoles we don't use anymore and want to get rid of, but I'm wondering if it will be an excersize in futility for some. What are your thoughts? Have you guys been successful selling these?

I have both Obsession I and II, ome old RVI's for etc net1 and etcnet2, and some RFU units.

I feel like people would buy the old RVI's, but getting rid of the obsessions will be very difficult. I want to get them out of our space so I can use the storage for better things.

Thoughts?

It seems like there's always someone wanting to buy old ETC consoles on one of the two gear selling sites I frequent. I'd try there if I were you.

Sell cheap, and "As Is" since you don't want to marry the people you sell them to. Most are shippable so a simple Ebay ad would be a good place to start. There are many brokers for used equipment but most are interested in newer equipment, such as a tour unloading. CB has a classified section you could list them in as well.

The ob2 come with a brain?

Sure you want to get rid of them, seems they would be great wall art for the booth, the TD's office, any tech space. Perhaps a glass topped desk or table.

Imagine turning OB2 into a giant remote for your TV and Entertainment Space.

Some vintage consoles are worth parting out. For example I know some Strand MX parts are difficult to come by. Memory cards and their receptacles for instance, but in the case of your Obsessions they may be worth posting for parts on a free site or two for a week but they're a little long in the tooth.
Toodleoo!

I've sold working Expresses for between $500-$800 within the last year, so people will buy those. The OB2 was less popular though, and definitely won't be worth much without the processor. You might get $100 each out of them. Selling for parts might be an option, especially if the linear potentiometers are the same as used in the Express(ion) lines.

Speaking of Expression, I watched bidding close on an Expression Emphasis faceplate. The eBay auction reached a grand total of $51. People definitely pay more for consoles that either have some significance or don't need outboard gear in order to be used.

For each generation there is the light board one grew up with - for me the Kliegl Performer and ETC Vision. Had I not a child in day care (very expensive costs = worth it), and were I more designer than old fixture collector; I would be wanting one of the light boards I started designing on. This especially the Vision if not corrupted in memory - any way to fix that? Perhaps like E-Bay for a light board is a concept if decent price to tech people or low budget thaters.
Also did the Strand Light Pallet III and Q-File a lot, but those are large light boards and not as easy to put in a home. I think I remember some of the light boards in discussion, believe they were both preset and memory boards correct? Anything wrong with them, reason not to continue using them or to give them to someone else?
I’m sure some small theater or local school would love to use such an upgraded light board. Wasn’t it like a year or two ago people were asking for help in gymatorium’s with like 1979 TTI two scene preset boards at best? (One can make magic with such light boards given the independent mode.) Still, your old technology perhaps is an upgrade to someone else.
Not as much a fan of parts out, but if for a good cause - a parts board perhaps is also a good thing.

We use our old express as a programming wing of sorts with our computer running LightFactory. I would wager other products could interpret DMX output from an old console in a similar fashion and a used console could be a mite cheaper than an actual programming wing too, but perhaps almost as useful.

Lots of desk do DMX in so you can use older things to control subs and such. Even very "strange" consoles like this one become useful if hooked up to a modern lighting console. ;-)
