Easter Service in the Park

Hi all! We are putting on an event on Easter Sunday this year in the park. There will be between 500 and 1,000 in attendance. We'd like to be able to broadcast lyrics for the songs and such to a screen that everyone could see. It will be 10 in the morning on a Florida sunny day. We're on a budget. Any suggestions for what we would rent and where we would rent it (best bang for the buck)? We'd like to push the lyrics from our computer but would be willing to do whatever it takes to pull off this event cleanly. Thanks in advance!

I'm conjuring a vision of several people holding up placards with black print on white backgrounds or possibly white print on black backgrounds if that would be more legible and easier on the eyes in glaring sun. Maybe several people holding up long, wide, banners.
Ya, I know I'm weird. There's no need to tell me.

Maybe I should have put this in the projection board? Just saw it was there. Do I repost or can someone move it? Thanks!

I think he was hinting at what kind of budget is your budget.

Do a search for a AV Rentals near me in google it will pop up a few places around you that could possibly rent you the gear.

You will need a pretty big screen, I would say 15k projector sunny , 10-12 cloudy. It really is situational, I would take the suggestion of the local rental houses as they do stuff in that area.

Big screens on beaches; Pray for little to no wind.

It seems to me that this would require an LED wall, not projection. Find someone who does this for outdoor music shows and expect to pay big bucks.

Thanks everyone. Asked a local and he said that there was no one around that had an LED Wall and he couldn't imagine anyone, including himself, being able to handle projection for this event. The closest LED Wall would cost us 5K which is out of the question. Lyrics books it is. Thanks for your help!

Have you thought about setting up a wireless network and multicasting the lyrics to an app or something. Shooting from the hip here.

I would consider several large monitors throughout instead of a large display. They should be fairly budget friendly and your biggest cost will be distribution. How contained will the congregation be? Are they in fixed seating or will they be free for all on a lawn?

Time to do it the way it's been done since the 16th century, with the words to music printed on (wait for it...) PAPER. It is sunlight friendly, works at any distance from the stage, and isn't blocked by a cowboy hat.

It's actually for this type of application that I want to have large E Ink displays. One manufacturer in Europe recently has released large scale electrowetting displays (Etulipa is the company) for replacing electronic billboards. I have been talking to them about their use for live entertainment (making them modular like LED walls). As both of these technologies do not emit light, then they are perfect for the bright daylight events.

There will be a fixed seating area then behind that will be "free for all". Here's the park:

Would the large monitors be easy to read from in the sunlight?

Very cool stuff, I checked it out on youtube!

Will you be in the outdoor seating area outside the Rec Building? With the coverage and the seating facing the East I truly think you could get away with a projector setup. Walk a Rental Rep around the space, I am sure they will have some ideas.

Depends on the monitor. Some would have glare issue. It also depends on if they are renting professional models or consumer models. The latter will not have the same brightness. However, the benefit that you have is that you can keep graphics simple (lyrics) and will make this more legible.

Under the right circumstances, if the screen were to be under the awning, you might be able to get away with projection for this. I would definitely work with your local rental house and have them look at the space. I have had some success, but controlling the light will be your main challenge. As soon as you get direct light on the projection screen, the sun will win.
