Outdoor Storage

As with most shops, there never seems to be enough space. I have an overflow 4x12 flats and 4x8 platforms taking up valuable shop space. I have a gated outdoor yard that is fairly large but does not have a roof. I don't get very many rainy days and it is dry here, but it does get hot during the summer (100+). Has anyone had success storing scenery outdoors? Or building a storage container with a roof outside?

Problem with most scenery is if it does get wet its done. Plywood de-laminates. Luan blows up. 1x4 warps. If you have the space get a few old shipping containers dropped in and throw in a large box of desiccant and call it done. Shipping containers are cheap and work really well for this type of thing.

Sure, just depends on how much you want to spend.

I'm not a fan of shipping containers. They aren't as big as the look and they tend to get musky after a while.

I would build a pole barn as big as you budget will allow put a nice wide garage door on it and call it a day.

You can buy a Connex in most metropolitan areas for $1500. or so. There are the way to go, IMHO. I have a buddy at an Opera in California that has a yard of hundreds of them with sets all ready for the renting...
Make sure you buy from a good source that will let you inspect the thing. If it smells musty it's got a leak, choose another one. Make sure the rubber seals on the doors are good. You really can't go wrong.
Believe me if you can use them to store scenery in Oregon. You can use them to store scenery ANYWHERE.
