Anyone use the Colorsource Linear?

I'm not sure if you're all getting the ad for the ETC Colorsource Linear at the top of the page, but I went and checked out the link, and they look like a compelling series of units...

In my case I'd be interested in using them to retrofit at least our five front footlighting units. Anyone used the 0.5m units in such a configuration?

I had a demo in a college recital hall set last week. We hung them 16' up in a 5' by 9' square with 'wide round' lenses. Bright enough for the musicians to read music - without complaining!

A key fact is that the .5m is a CS PAR in a different box; same source, electronics, virtually identical output. The lenses are either the old Selador ridges or diffusion.

I'm wondering about using the ColorSource linear as a cyc light, I do have ColorSource pars and spots and they're pretty decent for LED fixtures, but do you think you can get some high intensity saturated colors in the linear layout? Has anyone here used the ColorSource linear as a cyc light? How did that work with your FOH wash? Are the colors just as bright and saturated as the rest of the series?

Emitters are identical to the CSPar units. Like RickR said, the linear is essentially a CSPar in a linear format. I've seen them in a wall/cyc wash application and they are OK. I would still prefer a CS Spot or Series 2 with cyc adapter.

We just had our dance concert yesterday, and ended up with a bit of a plan shuffle when all was said and done. ETC was loaning us fixtures to demo for the event, and originally was going to give us enough Colorsource Linears to light our paneled cyc. They didn't have enough available to give us, so they ended up giving us 7 Colorsource Spot fixtures with cyc adapters, and 4 Colorsource Linear 1s that we ended up using to light the wing curtains. We also threw the linears and the colorsources on our projection screen when ETC dropped them off to see the difference. Photos will follow later in the week when I have time.

Primary impression- The Linear does a great job lighting drapes, nice saturated colors and matched nicely with our Colorsource Par and the Spot fixtures (these were the Deep Blue array fixtures, as were the Spots). However, when we threw the linears on the white projection screen next to the spots with the cyc adapter, there was a big difference. Because the Spot does its color-mixing inside the fixture, the light that hit the screen was pretty even and uniform. The Linear looked fine from about 4' above the fixture on upward, but below that was noticeable striping and inconsistency, and also the output seemed quite a bit less than the Spots. It was a big enough difference for me to scrap the idea of the linears on the cyc and engineer a cyc lighting position so we could use the Spot fixtures with the cyc adapters.

Thanks for the report. I felt that spots with cyc adapters was likely to be better for drops. I like to get them 5-6' away, well above, and not more than 3-4' on center. It seems to me the linear is better suited as a border light replacement. I'd like to try the linear at the top of a drop well above it so you miss the color separation but feel the spot with adapter is probably more economical for equal brightness and control.
