Truss failure

I'm wondering if anyone has heard of a motorized truss failure recently in a school auditorium? I just had my auditorium temporarily closed and the story I'm hearing is that somewhere enough of the wire cables snapped to bring it down...

Hey Chris,

I've not heard anything, but that doesn't mean something hasn't happened. (I've been preoccupied with watching Tool dates in my area....because Tool.)

"Somewhere enough of the wire cables snapped to bring it down" is rife with vagueness and incorrect use of terms- so if someone is using this language, I would be suspect that they may not know entirely what they are talking about.

However....we are ControlBooth of Borg, and if this is a real thing I can't imagine we wouldn't find out. Hive mind, assemble! Summon: Google-Fu!

(A quick search of my own shows nothing of a truss failure in our realm. Lots of gymnasium roofs failing under snow load. Some stuff about portable stage roofs getting blown away in severe winds. But nothing school related in an auditorium sense.)

Hmm, so I still can't gather more details - the temporary solution that the engineer signed off on including using 3/8" wire rope to secure the truss to the roof members, pending an inspection by Syracuse Scenery... I'm of course concerned that their temporary solution will become a permanent fix...

Yes I happen to know something about this. Self climbing truss. And I heard another half dozen or so similar installations were being safetied off. Sounds like you are one. I don't know which school.

And I hear it was not running correctly - noise, jerking, something - but no one said "Hey - this is broken - we should stop using it." Thankfully, there were no reported injuries to people.
