Broadway taking notice of projection

I believe that The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time made heavy usage of projection in it's design as well. If I remember right it was a two console show, Eos / MA, but I can't remember what I heard was controlling which aspects of the design. There maybe someone else who can provide more info. Very interesting!

I just saw Anastasia last weekend. The execution of LED walls and projection was incredible and immersive. Midstage they had an arced wall that ran left to right. The center section could be be flown in/out revealing an archway. The SL/SR sides of the wall had pivoting double sided LED walls facilitating set pieces coming on/off as well as scene changes. The upstage LED wall was a full height & full width wall. The designers went so far as to "fly in curtains" on the LED walls. Projectors were everywhere, but never once did I see a projector spill onto an actor. The mapping of the projection was incredibly precise. The were other more traditional scenic elements that incorporated nicely with the technology that was being utilized. We sat 3 rows from the bit.

If this is the direction Broadway is going in scenic design, I can't wait to see more. My hats off to the crew, designers, musicians, actors, and directors. The entire production was flawless in execution.

I tend to doubt it. At least with sound design, it has always been known that it was its own entity. With projection, it is often encompassed in lighting or scenic design (even if there is a projection designer). Not that I am complaining that it needs its own Tony.
