Control/Dimming Stupid Ion Questions 2

Oh, and to address the prime question of this:

Yes, turning Auto-Playback off *does* solve my fundamental problem. Sometimes, I end up with a different problem, which is that I want to fiddle with things, and then restore a cue to the submasters, and *then* release it for further editing, and the faders on my 2x20 wing, damnit, steadfastly refuse to be motorized...

But I know how to do that manually: you do it the same way you do on a smartfade -- you play the cue, and hand fiddle the faders til they're in the right place per the tombstone display, and then you goto-q 0 to release it.

Gonna mark this one CLOSED FIXED, and move right on to 6. :)

Also, in regards to everything else everyone has said. You could set up some "Work Lights" on stage out of any spare instruments you have that aren't used for the show/actual dimmer controlled work lights and record those to an Inhibitive Sub-master so as to not record those into the show. This at least allows the actors to have light (or whoever is working on stage for that matter) and you to be able to program.

Except, of course, that it's kinda hard to program with lots of extra light on stage. Well, for me, at least. It's the fundamental disconnect.

And for the record, that isn't my understand of how inhibitive subs work...

I think they meant an exclusive sub...

"Inhibitive submasters do not provide levels to the stage picture, they limit them (similar to a grandmaster). It
is possible to put non-intensity parameters onto an inhibitive submaster, but it must be done from
blind

"Submasters can be placed in exclusive mode. This prohibits storing the contribution of the
submaster into any record targets. In essence, this acts as a fixed [-] [Record] command."

And I think I've figured out the answer to the question I asked SteveB above:

What's on my test magic sheet is *groups*; what I'm adjusting is *submaster faders*... and they don't have groups in them, they have channels.

It may not be possible to have the magic sheet show what I am after...

Not necessarily but it would simplify things if you want to make changes since you could update the palette and have the change reflected in the sub and anywhere else it is references. My workflow is very different from yours so it is difficult to make any recommendations, only suggestions. For instance, I don't use subs (faders) to build looks and haven't since the last time I used a 2-scene preset board a few decades ago.

Just got back from no internet land in the Adirondacks, missed the questions.

My groups in the magic sheet example I posted, do not indicate group intensity. The individual channel rectangles do have intensity in the lower right corners.

As it turns out, Enable AutoPLayback OFF combined with Goto Cue # and Goto Cue Out is the hottest setup available.

I talked to Justin about this on the phone last week, and it turns out what I really want is a "Preview" Key: one that solos the entire DMX output to a specific cue (by default, the last one I recorded), overriding everything that's playing, *while I hold down the key*.

I've RFE'd that (I think).

I just tried this in the OLE.

Ch's 1 thru 5 recorded in Subs 1-5 at full respectively. Auto Playback is enabled.

Keypad "Sub 1 thru 5 @ Full, Enter". Values for Ch's 1 - 5 are at full in yellow, so getting levels from subs.

"Record Cue 1, Enter". Values for Ch's 1 thru 5 go blue, so values now generated from the cue.

"Go to Cue Zero, Enter". Values restore as Ch's 1 thru 5 @ full and yellow, so back to subs.

Am I missing something ?.

I know the OP was last year, but for those who come after us .....
When you use the keypad and enter "Sub 1 thru 5 @ Full, Enter". because the Values for Ch's 1 - 5 are at full in yellow, you are getting levels from sub 1 which is still on (not the fader). Taking the cue value out dosen't turn off the sub.

However, keyboard- sub 1 out enter will return the channels to the cue value.
