DMX Rope Chase Setup Help

Hello All,

I am looking to get some chase functionalities out of my LED DMX ropes, but i am not sure how to tell if they're capable. The site i bought them from does not specify whether or not they are DMX controllable, nor could they tell me when inquiring.

Ideally, i'd like simple forwards/backwards chases, and possibly control of the individual LEDs throughout the rope. Can someone please tell me how to check the rope for these capabilities?

My hope is to wire these to a decoder and control them along with a couple of DMX 4x4 floods via a DMIXS. So I also need to know of a recommended decoder for these functions. The decoder will need DMX I/O and I would like it to have a very small footprint as this is for my band's live performances. We control everything preset by preset with a Korg Kronos as we play.

Any help would be great. Thanks.

First things first. The site where you bought your LED DMX ropes doesn't say if they can be controlled via DMX? Then what does the DMX part of the name come from? As a rule, answering these sorts of questions is a whole lot easier with a brand name, or web link, or something that provides more information. The alternative is a lot of guessing and misleading answers.

Speaking of guessing and misleading answers...

Your strings have to be "pixel strings" to provide individual control. Once that's been determined you are looking for a DMX to WS2811 or similar device, whatever is compatible with the ropes. You also need a power supply for the LEDs, if they don't already come with one.

EDIT: i did not mean to call them DMX ropes in my first sentence...

Thanks for the info. The boxes had Chinese writing on them so there was no way to tell what the brand or PN was. No luck in finding the manufacturer online either. Here's a link to the rope lights.

A google search for the model number (Product Code: 11DSL001-NEON50F-04) suggests they are double-sided SMD2835 leds available from several sources under several brand names including Yescom. They aren't capable of running chases.

Thanks for pointing that out. So what types of LEDs should i be searching for? I definitely need the PVC style rope (preferably one solid rope or double-sided) and would like the option of having full control over each individual LED.

I was able to follow the link. Those look nice but i need a flexible PVC housing. I sent a quote request to see how much those go for. I am definitely looking to go the cheapest route possible right now, and that's probably going to be found on Alibaba... but i'm up for going DIY if it's cheap enough.

Any other recommendations?
