Ghost The Musical

Hello everyone, I will be directing "Ghost The Musical" for our upcoming fall show this year and understand there is quite a bit of illusions involved in this show. I did not see anything in the script on how to do the illusions so I was wondering if anyone out there could advise me on these things? We are a mid size community theatre that seats about 300 people on a great day, but since we are a small coastal town in the Pacific Northwest and this town is very PRO FOOTBALL we average anywhere from 50 - 75 audience per night. I really believe in the arts and want to draw audiences into the theatre and perhaps apart from the story of this play, these illusions just might entice more people to come. My hope is that the audience will be enthralled with the special effects and by word of mouth more people will come. I would like to see our audience size grow and have these new people find an appreciation for the arts. Any help would be much appreciated.

Leatha,

Welcome to the Booth! We have discussed a couple of the effects in the Multimedia part of the forum. One thing to keep in mind is that many of the effects for that show were originally created by a stage magician. If you know any good illusionists, that will be a great place to start.

Thank you for responding, unfortunately I don't know of any magicians. I've looked online but have not been successful. The closest I could find was the trick mirror and Peppers Ghost but not sure if they would work.

I have not seen the show, just clips. What effects specifically are you looking to do? When you have the specific questions, pose them on the special effects forum and you will likely get a lot of ideas thrown at you. Make sure to describe your space that you are working in and the budget that you have to work with. This will help to guide you to better answers.
