Hi board members...
Short intro, i'm a Montreal based equipment designer with a strong electronics, electric, lighting & controls background... Also reading you all for a few months now... Cheers !

General comments needed on the ETC S3 ThruPower modules...

Nice features on paper, but who actually worked with it and what are the cons (if any) and what to look for and/or not forget in a design process.

Thx in advance !

They can function as essentially a constant power circuit if used in an older Sensor rack (pre CEM3). They will not respond to DMX control when in constant ON mode, but have the advantage over a relay or constant module in that you only lose half a module to become a constant circuit. The other circuit can stay as a dimmer and responds to DMX. There's a switch for each circuit on the front of the module that sets that circuit to constant.

In a CEM3 rack, they can be changed from an Eos series console to be a relay or dimmer, this is done in Patch.

Obviously an advantage over a relay or constant module is the ability of having only one of the circuits on a module be constant, with the other as dimmed, thus worth the cost.

I've put ghem in a few projects, but have decided not to do more. Many new facilities want to go all LED. Even in those that don't it's pretty simple to lay out circuits that use whole modules of the cheaper forms.

Retrofits are another story. But even there, a couple for flexibility are all that's really needed.
