Stupid ion question 9

Amiers

Renting to Corporate One Fixture at a Time.
So at the roadhouse I LD at we run off a base show file for one offs and rule of thumb is to save as the base file with whatever show you are doing so you don’t mess up the base.

Well I already know how to save as by double clicking “Save As” but man if it doesn’t take a solid minute sometimes of double clicking to get the prompt to pull up the save as.

The question:

Is there a save as shortcut key command to just press like when saving the show “Shift Update”?

Won’t that just change the name of the existing file and save it.

The idea is to not change the base file.

I’m looking for the keystroke command vs using the mouse. If that wasn’t clear from my OP

Every time you save a file it's a new file with a new time stamp. Thus even just pressing Save is going to create a new file. Under the file structure, you will see the base file in bold yellow and if you press the triangle next to the file name you will see every version created with that name, all with different time stamps. You are NEVER overwriting the original base file. When you open the base file and click on the name in bold yellow, all you are opening is that last file saved with that name.

Well that answers part of my question.

What if the House LD is OCCD and wants a new file regardless?

Am I stuck with mashing the mouse til I get the prompt?

I'm not sure why you are having trouble double clicking--are you clicking on "save as" or on the sub entry "show file archive" (Hint: it should be on show file archive). I usually use keystrokes... Displays/F9, arrow keys to the location, and then enter to save, but mouse/touch screen has never not worked for me.

I am maybe the mouse we got just sucks. Hence why I wondering if there is a key command.

Whoops lol guess I missed that part.

Thanks.

Isn't Save As the easy way to change the file name?

Set up opening the file to a magic sheet with a giant reminder and a save as macro button? And maybe a snapshot button for normal use.

Indeed, it would have made sense if I had said, "Save once with Save As, changing the file name, then subsequently you only need to do a Shift Update".

No shortcut key for Save As, directly...

You can use the keyboard F9 than directional arrows to save via keyboard.

You can learn Save As into a macro or have an internal OSC event /eos/key/save_file on a Magic Sheet button.

You can even have this triggered via Contact Closure or Real Time Event

As noted, Shift + Update does create a time stamped save so you're not actually overwriting a show file, but it doesn't help OCD issue ;-)

I have noticed that save time varies based on Show File size... specifically if you use high res photos in magic sheets. or your magic sheets have a large dimension and you have a lot of them. Even if you only have 1 magic sheet, if the resolution is large, it greatly reduces performance on the older IONs.

I adopted the hit enter method after clicking “Save As” and clicking the folder then just hitting enter.

Works like a charm.

Stupid question solved.

Wanting to create

"Show Name FINAL safety copy"

and then go back to

"Show Name FINAL"

to run, is not an OCD-inspired procedure. Just Saying.

Though I'd prefer it if they had Save A Copy instead of Save As, saving you having to reload the original file...
