Automated Fixtures VL2500 Spot Intermittent Pulsating and re-striking

Hello All,

I have a VL2500 Spot fixture that occasionally while operating the light will start pulsing.

The light will pulse for a few minutes and then become steady, It will continue to alternate between pulsing and steady through the duration of it's use. It roughly spends about 2/3rd's of it's time steady and 1/3rd pulsing.

This same fixture will also occasionally lamp itself off and then after about 1.5 minutes will automatically re-lamp. Other than light output the fixture continues to function normally.

Any guidance or direction would be very helpful and appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

@HONBrClIF Beginning with the basics: Are all filters and ventilation entrances and exits clear, clean, free from dust and debris?
Are any / all fans operational?? Is available ambient air clean, dry and at a suitable temperature???
Optimistically our resident VL experts will reply shortly.

Sounds like a mix of power and igniter failure.

Start with Rons suggestions.

Then replace the lamp and while you are doing that look at the socket and the wire harness and the connections coming out of it.

The re-striking suggests heat or power. I have seen instances where the lamp will frost up and cause the fixture to overheat. A different lamp would be the first thing I would try while checking for dust, bad contacts, and running fans at the same time. There have been situations where a fixture was sent in for repair when it just needed a new lamp.

Lamp would be the first suspect. Swap lamp with another unit and see if the problem moves. Lamps can go funky at any age. Before you start digging in for a repair and sending it out, eliminate the lamp as the cause.
