Alice in Wonderland: Growing/Shrinking

I had a director approach me today looking for ideas to pull off the growing/shrinking schtick in Alice in Wonderland. Anyone have a proven technique? (Yes, I have already done a search and I am aware of the similar thread from 2011.) She is also looking for any other "gee-whiz" SFX that might be used for that show.

I did it once where the Alice was upstage of a white muslin drop, and backlit from the deck, casting a shadow on the fabric. If she walked US toward the light, she "grew", and if she walked DS she "shrank". But I think the production was actually a ballet, so it was all very loosely interpreted, and there was no dialogue, so there was no issued with verbally interacting with other characters, etc...

Did the same. Meh, but it get the idea across.

We used a periaktoi for a production of Alice junior which would rotate to make the background look bigger or smaller as appropriate. Also, Meh, but got idea across. If I were to approach this again, I would consider using projection to either show a pre-recorded and edited scene, or project backgrounds that grew and shrank.

Well
I opine that what needs to change size is not Alice, but the furniture around her. If you can’t do a realistic projection, how about using whatriggers suggestion ( shadow from an up stage fixture) to change the furniture size?

Check this out.

Wrap the furniture in blow up furniture and when the potion thing happens blow them up.

Alternatively

You have 2 sets of blow up furniture one small and one large. when potion is drank one set deflates while others inflate.

Leave Alice the same size, and resize everything else on the stage.

For extra points, resize the audience.

Two pills in every program (Jefferson Airplane in the pre-show music is optional), sugar-free mints of different colors.
