Tariffs!

Over the past couple of months I have on LED tape been charged a 10% terriff on tape bought. Lucky for the next two months I think I bought what I need for known projects specific to tape wanted and vendor supplied. Gets really specific what tape and vendor to buy from so... Hey, they have that same tape, or I could provide it cheaper normally is already researched and not asking for help on suppliers for.

25% markup... that's going to be really bad for the lighting and especially special projects in it industry where we often need tape next week for something. Gonna be interesting!

Consumers ultimately pay the tariffs. I wonder if his supporters will connect the dots when the prices of basic, household necessities jump.
@FMEng Can his supporters read, let alone connect dots? Personally, I suspect most of his supporters have difficulty with websites with "Prove you're not a robot" tests. Toodleoo! Ron Hebbard

Sorry, hoping to guide this away from the political. This website I believe would also rather not our brothers in theater to be considered less in politics for looking to a political leader's policy... in them say got what you wanted, Chaous.. I would also like to no matter my political opinion, keep CB a little more pure, in keeping to the subject - or a non-political subject. We are theater people, how does this effect your program and you?

Necessary:
25% isn't going to happen right away, but migtht show up in some immediate orders. This might never be seen in many vendors soaking up the 10% terriff (already in place) by way of orders already in-bound or delaying orders, and shipping form stock until an expected deal gets done. Good/bad deal in saving face for both nations, or not. it's expected or hoped some deal will get done.

How is this rality of 25% terriff you will be paying effecting you now, or in the chance you will be, "No Deal", effected in the future for plannning? That's the conversation perhaps for CB. Not politics. Thoughts?

Let me explain something to all of you...having regularly done 6-figure imports from China for many years....What China gets away with is ridiculous. They are MASTERS of manipulating our customs laws by misclassifying goods, stealing our IP. Have any of you shipped a box from the USA to China, and then shipped that exact same box from China to the USA? It is easily 4-5 times the price shipping USA-China. And it is because we in the USA are subsidizing China's shipping. If we buy a package from China, it is dirt cheap to get shipped China-USA. Our EXPORTERS (factories in the USA producing and exporting goods elsewhere) make up for that by paying 4-5 times more to ship to China (and other places). It is outrageous, and it is exactly what Trump and his "illiterate supporters" are sick and tired of.

It's really incredible.....the same people who have argued for YEARS on this forum about how China produces garbage moving lights and steals US/European intellectual property....are now the SAME people who think the status quo has been fine for so many years and why are we trying to ruffle feathers with China. I am an importer....the tariffs will DEFINITELY hurt me in the short term. But ultimately it is a necessary thing we as a country need to do to right the ship of the outrageous trade imbalance which is taking work away from American workers and enriching the Chinese at the expense of American workers. You would be surprised how many importers I have met who agree with me. Our chinese suppliers are constantly telling us ways to circumvent or "work around" US customs laws to benefit both of us.

By the way....the major sticking point in the current US-PRC negotiations is ENFORCEMENT OF IP....China is refusing to agree to terms that would hold it accountable if it fails to protect US intellectual property. This is something you should all be on board with!!!!!

@ppas11hum Stealing US intellectual property: You mean like reverse engineering a popular QSC amplifier right down to copying design engineer Bob Lee's signature etched into the traces on a PC board then denying it?

Hey! we've quit installing Steel t-bar walls for counterweight systems. we cannot get the proper sized t-bar because of the tariffs. Companies are hoarding what steel they have and are only stocking/manufacturing the popular sizes. If you want a new counterweight system you are either going to have to go with an Aluminum J-bar wall, OR wait a really long time and pay an exorbitant amount of money. Weight until Weight is affected. Aluminum pigs ?

https://www.controlbooth.com/members/ppas11hum.24081/ you have some good points.. a little slanted in politics not asked for but perhaps necessary for your opinion. Say any schools given the terriff waiting on program improvements? Just a thought, I actually like one of my vendor's added Terriff charge to the price of materials. This as opposed to just raising prices that are the same. I think all vendors should do this terriff charge added as seperate part of the price as per seperate and honest in price. Stolen science is a thing as with why are possibly noted cheaper but lower quality stainless steel bolts a thing for our industry. 25% terriff on goods fom China. Supeect this will also be a work stopage on gear bought for upgrades to theaters, impact for the kids in such a program. What impact does this have for such programs?

Hey; I learned everything I know about Smoot-Hawley from Dave Barry.

(And, since it was actually called the "Hawley-Smoot Act", you probably did too. :)
