So my theater had this ugly mix of mis-matched broken down mic stands and it was time to get new ones. Shopping around at NAMM I settled on K&M stands and specifically a bunch of 210/9 tripod base w/ boom stands and 26075 Hand Clutch with stackable round bases (They are AWESOME).

Once they got here I got to work on an old road case. I removed the lid, and gutted it.

I moved the dividers over and added 18" cuts of 4" PVC.

A few pop rivets to reinstall the divider and I was ready to go! 18 stands all in one rolling cart! I'm going to get a small container to put on the "shelf" area in the back of the cart to store extra mic clips.

I love how the round based stands nest together. There's a small nub on the bottom of the stand that sort of locks into a hole in the base of the one below it.

Here's a picture of those bases locking together...

What are you doing with that Mac250 lol

I love the clutch. I couldn't see a weight on the website, how do the stackable base weight compare to a full dish?

Edit: actually paying attention to the fact that it's in kg and is actually listed, helps. I was looking for pounds and went right on by. for anybody else wondering, its almost the same weight.

Yeah, almost the same weight, very stable and there's a nice rubber ring around the bottom of it so it sits nicely on the ground. German engineering baby!

I've got 10 of them actually, that one has some sort of software issue that I haven't had time to figure out yet. Got em used for $500 each. The latest and greatest? No. But a ton of upgrade for my little space for $5,000.

I'm officially inspired. Thanks for posting this! I've seen a few of these cases on the road before, but never had the ambition to do it myself until now.
It was super easy, maybe an hour total work. The hardest part was removing some of the rivets. I didn't actually secure the PVC pipes, they are just wedged in and flop around a bit. Shoved a few black rags in the gaps between pipes to solve that.

The PVC tubing is a good way to keep you stands looking nicer, longer and this is a good use of a case you'd otherwise have to surplus. Cool solution to your transport issue!

Plus it's significantly more compact for storage AND one person can bring every stand needed for the gig to the stage in one trip.
