Here is a story from NBC about UV-C sanitation with some further details.

@JohnD Apparently this is unavailable to me on my side of lil' Donnie's walls.
Toodleoo!

Also unavailable in the states.

Yeah, NBC seems to be somewhat difficult.
The main point was about Far UV, a specific wavelength of UV-C.
Some other links, with more credibility:
EDIT: Interesting the first of the links I posted didn't link the same as the second and third links, could it be that the first was http: and the other two were https: ?

UV sanitation has been a thing for a while now. Here in London is TROJAN who makes UV water sanitization systems, which I've installed in municipal water treatment plants 10 years ago.
There have also been "phone sanitizers" that use UV-C for a while now.

The problem with UV-C is that it is just as deadly to just about all known life on earth, including us. So stuff really focusing on the UV-C part of the spectrum needs to be used in a way to block the light from you.

There are great Sanitizing boxes/bags that you can pop things into that use UV-C, but look out for knockoffs that don't actually use UV-C but UV-A/B. This kind of thing sold out completely right at the beginning of the quarantine.

There are a few reputable entertainment companies looking into solutions utilizing UV-C. I work with one called Luxibel out of the EU, and we’re bringing their products into the states. The science is solid, and as Dionysus mentioned has been used in water and air purification for years - but there are cautions and precautions. If anyone is interested, feel free to reach out to me for more info.

Backed and distributed by ACT here in the US and Canada.

I was going to write my own post- but this basically says it all.
I'm not saying there isn't anything useful here- a rental shop might be able to use this to disinfect units as they come in for example.
What it is NOT is waving a UV light in front of your audience as they come in, or hanging some T8s in the ceiling over the stage.

What I found most interesting is that there MIGHT be a very limited wavelength range of UVC (207-222 nanometres*) which could be less harmful to people. The only test results I found were with insects and rodents, no human tests yet. There is also a lot of interest among researchers for an affordable LED lightsource to be developed.

*It seems that for the international scientific community, nanometre is the preferred spelling rather than the mostly US nanometer spelling.

The IES (Illuminating Engineering Society) www.ies.org has recently released a ton of information on UV light for disinfection. This is the group that helps to make lighting standards and codes. If you want more information I would reach out to your local chapter.

https://www.ies.org/standards/committee-reports/ - you can view the 4 hour webinar they hosted recently at this link.

When we had our AC replaced a couple of years back, one of the add-ons available was a UV-C light installed. I did some homework and found that I could acquire one much cheaper online, but in researching I found that unless you have a specific air quality problem in your system (e.g. mold growing inside the ducts), they don't do a whole lot since the air moves too quickly for the UV light to have much of an effect on anything not parked near it. I would wager in commercial handlers where the volume of air is greater, the effect might be even less. You'd almost need an array of these lights to increase the exposure time for a specific volume of air moving through the system. In any event, the AC guy installing it told me that it was essentially snake oil on the residential level and if you did have moisture intrusions problems leading to a build up of nasty stuff you already had more issues than a UV light was going to solve.
