Rubber tire boom stands

Does anyone here have a plan to make your own boom stand bases using a rubber tire filled with concrete? Used to use these all the time but don't see them much anymore. Thanks.

There's a reason you don't see a lot of cement/used tire creations for boom bases - but I'll just go with a "from my experience" reply and say that they are a pain to move/store/secure, not to mention the bits of concrete that you'll get chipping out after a year of frequent use creating a mess and raising safety concerns. Just not worth it when the alternatives last longer, store better, and don't cause performers to question the safety of a "home made" rigging component.

Either SSRC or Altman make great bases, or if you happen to know a certified welder perhaps you could talk to that person about fabricating a solution for you.

Saw one at the tire store yesterday. I also think that for the effort there are better solutions.

Really, I've never made one. The one I saw before any concrete was someone had attached a pipe flange onto a tire rim. This was over forty years ago. It would seem there are some tricky bits like how do you keep the pipe vertical while the concrete sets?

I'm interested, please explain in dealing with some Super Trouper's yesterday that have to roll to their positions and stay there yearly and the welded caster mounts for the stem casters keep failiing due to rough and cracked floor. And or the concept of a concrete caster.
